  • Concept of anarchy in politics is pretty elusive, probably more so than utopian communism. The big difference being is that we tried anarchy and it ended up turning into some kind of feudalism in most places.

  • That kind of thinking was behind how new EU regulations work - fines specified as a percentage range of global revenues. I think the biggest issue is enforcement because those companies can afford to take those things to court and delay for years.

  • What did I dodge specifically? Anarchy allowing everything for the strongest is a tautology and entirely irrelevant to current technology bubble.

  • I specifically said that private use can’t be regulated (practical reasons, ethical reasons) but most of the states exist to regulate commercial activity and are equipped to do just that.

  • US doesn’t have a functioning government, yes. In anarchy everything is permitted if you’re strong enough, can’t help you with that.

  • People can do it on their own computers - that’s not a problem. The problem is when they try to sell it and functional governments are perfectly capable of regulating trade.

  • I agree with tackling this issue intuitively because humans like other animals have a basic sense of injustice and its setting all kinds of alarms right now. We have already dealt with this - it’s called fair use. Machine processing of someone else’s art for commercial purposes will never be a fair use.

  • Some of this is „how to spot AI slop” so most here will be familiar but there are also some more clever examples. Might be worth sharing with older friends and relatives. And Gen Z.

  • The way it is currently done is by dragging an anchor over the cables, often multiple times. Baltic Sea is being monitored for this kind of activity and suspects are being watched more closely and even escorted. Specialised equipment for cable cutting makes things harder to monitor. Of course this is also a threat but good luck proving anything.

  • Dedicated to the person complaining about racism against Japanese people under a post about how nice trees and hills look in AC: Shadows.

  • Was he serious when he said that Symphony of the Night was „a fun 5-hour experience”? Can’t read if that’s a troll or did he genuinely go blind and miss the hints? :)

  • Americans won’t be saved by the Democrats.

  • When it comes to businesses and money I’m sure everyone wants to make as much as possible and therefore are applying all possible pressure at all times. It’s that pressure from Visa and Mastercard is much stronger because you’re not going to be able to run a business effectively without taking payments that way.

Card processing should be a service that’s provided by a central government and even capitalists would be happy about it but we live in a neoliberal hegemony.

  • The CPC Network, coordinated by the European Commission, is publishing a set of guidelines today to promote transparency and fairness in the online gaming industry's use of virtual currencies.

    That doesn’t seem binding.

  • Fundamentals of what? Botanics?

  • Amazing, make annexation dependent on a criminal organisation cooperating after you’ve spent decades funding that criminal org.

  • It’s still a bit hit or miss at the time I’m posting stuff. If I submit news for archival I’m getting an archive of a paywall very often. It happens with archive.is too but not that frequently.

I’m putting this for everyone’s convenience but I also don’t want to make a job for myself out of this.

  • What does that have to do with plants and hills?

  • If you know of a different archival service that’s popular enough to carry this kind of content then I’m open to suggestions. By the time I post this stuff archive.is already has a copy but other ones I check don’t.
