  • I don’t think that those prices for US reflect new tariffs in any way. First of all, they were announced before tariff rates but importantly it’s also a complete tossup if they’ll be in place by the summer and in what form. If they remain as they are then I think Americans will be paying noticeably more for their consoles and games.

  • Yes, let’s change the definition so that prompt engineer is the person that comes up with discussion prompts for Jehovah’s witnesses to strike up conversations with strangers. I mean those that start out with ecology but turn out to be about bible in 2-3 minutes. These prompt engineers catch me off guard sometimes.

  • I think I’ve seen some Japanese research on this.

  • It was a part of Super Mario 3D All-Stars bundle on Switch 1 although not having an analog trigger kinda sucks. New controller seems to have digital triggers again unfortunately.

  • Nothing in Poland, probably because Nintendo has no presence and rely on some weird Czech distributor. It wouldn’t surprise me if it was easier to preorder or buy Switch 2 outright in a store at launch day here regardless because Nintendo is not very popular in those parts.

  • You’re right, I usually browse Lemmy in some compact modes so I see titles only before I open threads. I somehow assumed it’s the same for others and censored it only there because if you click it then you probably know what you’re doing. I’ll just flag this NSFW instead.

  • The more I think about it I agree with some comments on this I saw on Slashdot some time ago. Once those monstrous hacked apps start being used in the wild it’ll be so easy to crack their logic and get them to do unintended things. It’ll be like being a hacker or phreaker in the 80s. Personally, I missed that boat and I’m too dumb for real hacking even if I code so I don’t mind having a go at this.

  • That’s why they sell you a special controller. You can pay to be able to pay for the games you are paying for.

  • They used some kind of hybrid solution for Super Mario 3D All-Stars but I can’t imagine Switch 2 won’t be powerful enough for regular emulation. Even relatively old Android phones can run Dolphin now.

  • They’re used to AI being extremely inefficient use of resources.

  • This is what they claim in UK:

Has spent a certain amount of time playing purchased/paid Nintendo Switch games, prioritising those with more playtime.

Over time, the selection criteria thresholds may be lowered and more people could be invited to pre-order a Nintendo Switch 2 console. Throughout, we will remain focussed on prioritising the most dedicated Nintendo Switch players (while stocks last).

  • This stops most scalping though so using voluntary metrics to prioritise some seems like a reasonable trade-off. This suggests scarcity but it’d be weird since they launch mid-year. I guess they’re trying to FOMO their fans.

  • I used my own console certificate to authenticate pirated game downloads straight off Nintendo servers while it was still possible. I don’t think I can receive official updates anymore. So probably no tracked time here either ;)

I like Nintendo stuff but Nintendo doesn’t have an official distributor here so I’ll probably buy it like a sane person, in a store.

  • Retails for $80, wtf. Nintendo charges more if the game is good but this thing must have magic powers to explain the price tag. Maybe this is the price of whatever they call Download Play this time?

  • Hollow Knight is appropriately moody for the genre. Many Metroidvanias are boring because they lack character that would motivate you to do Metroidvania levels of backtracking. Some games tried to copy Hollow Knight vibes specifically, for example Ender Lillies, but nobody managed to even match it.

The game itself not innovative but very polished too, like Blizzard game from the old times. I think it was one of the first games in the genre that picked up some cues from Soulsborne games too, before formula was overdone, hence why it is so fondly remembered.

  • I was also baffled at using WW for the demo. Give me that port of Wii U port you cowards.

  • This was the most innovative and impressive game shown today IMO.

  • Loved Alley Cat on my moms work IBM PC in very early 90s. It didn’t age well but I load it up on archive.org sometimes and play a couple of rounds because it’s one of the first games played in my life together with Barbarian and Digger. Maybe if I had Amiga I’d know more of this guy. Bittersweet ending to that story.
