  • $140 – the Kobo Clara BW (black and white/e-ink) is clutch. Dark mode, plays well with calibre, a wide range of supported formats, and way more storage and battery life than you’ll ever need.

Edit: it is one of the first devices to utilize the E Ink Carta 1300 screen. It’s filled with e-books from Annas Archive loaded by Calibre on Debian and never complained about compatibility.

  • I’m still using my 2020 SE that has the same screen size. It’s needed a battery swap last year which set me back $50, but that was installed at the Apple Store.

Apple supports their phones for quite a few years. When they drop support for this phone I’ll be on the new small phone journey myself.

  • You’ve gotta strip it first. When my buddy came back from the military he taught me to roll it around in the fingers until the remaining tobacco falls out, then the trash goes into the pocket until a bin is found.

Although, there’s not a class on that at all. I did my fair share of littering as a smoker. I still feel shit about it, which is why I bring my picker upper stick and an empty bucket with me on walks. It comes back full every time. Water bottles everywhere.

  • the next world war might claim a billion or more

That’s still just 1 out of 8. You’d barely notice.

Edit: Doubling down on the downvotes. Here my proposition – an even split between China, India and the US. That leaves China and India at just over 1B each and the US to 12M, which is fair.
