  • This is literally the exact bad attitude of your average Wayland proponent. The thing which has worked for 20 years doesn't work you just hallucinated it along with all the show stopper bugs you encountered when you tried to switch to Wayland.

  • MAGAs want to replace democracy with an autocracy of a Hitleresque figure who wants to put his enemies in prison and shoot protestors. He has said he plans to gut the entire federal government and replace it with folks that have sworn a loyalty oath to trump and imprison state goverment officials who don't tow the line. They believe this is necessary because the majority of them believe in some part of the Qanon mythos which has an army of fictional children trafficked by a global cabal of vampires extending their life by harvesting the brain chemicals of their victims. This fits right in with the rest of their world view where the earth is less than 10,000 years old, vaccines containing microchips to control their brains, forest fires caused by Jewish space lasers, and the need to prepare the world for the climactic second coming of their zombie lord. It's also awfully convenient because who needs to worry about that fake global warming if jeebus is coming back any day now.

In comparison "Blue-Magas" want everyone to have affordable health care and college, tax rich people, let women and their doctors manage their health care decisions and think a fellow who has spent decades in government doing acceptable but not revolutionary work without scandal or nonsense is an OK guy. Do you even hear yourself? There aren't any blue MAGAs.

  • On everything but plasma 5.26+ Applications running via xwayland are scaled in a fashion that makes them blurry when the desktop uses scaling eg high dpi, furthermore if you have monitors A and B which use different scaling the X app can't be scaled differently on each monitor like X apps can be under X nor like Wayland apps are under wayland. If you use a single 1080p monitor you wouldn't have noticed any of this but its ridiculously common if for no other reason that there are shit tons of high dpi laptops and low DPI external monitors

  • This is fairly bad logic it presumes we must either do no evil whatsoever or do however much evil we like because we refuse to do no evil. You could trivially extend it to eating people after all why are we picking which animal its OK to eat? Back in reality we should probable stop eating animals but a world where we do less harm is still better than one where we do more and most of us would race to stop the consumption of 3 children before we would endeavor to save 3 million chickens. The argument goes that the whales are closer to the children than the chickens. Even if you don't think this is fair or reasonable nobody is going to save the chickens and there is political and moral will to save the whales so perhaps be happy with the good that we can do instead of insisting on all or none.

  • If you include the period before we split from England we spent centuries taking land that didn't belong to us and building our economy at least partly on slavery. If you look at the South in that time frame slavery permeated their culture. It is as fair to say that slavery was if anything much more deeply embedded in Southern culture than whaling in Iceland.

  • They were told to vote for Biden so they voted for Biden, even though he is also a sexual predator, and a well-documented racist monster just like Trump of course.

Biden isn't a sexual predator that is literally a qanon conspiracy theory. He was racist in the 60s. When you know better you do better. People actually sometimes do progress over 50 odd years.

People don't vote for Biden because they are told to the functional design of our winner takes all voting system is that there will always be 2 major parties because any third party that gets a substantial chunk of the vote ends up splitting the vote with the party it is most like resulting in the opposite side winning. If you want something better there are about half a hundred better systems like ranked choice voting that would allow people to credibly vote for third parties without throwing away their vote.

Pretending we are just helpless because people are sheep just teaches people to be helpless instead of recognizing they are acting rationally given bad options.

  • The biggest Sin by far of Wayland is making users think about the graphics stack. Does this feature or this app support Wayland or X? Does this Compositor support this GPU? Does this particular environment support this mixture of displays with this DPI? Do I need to set a particular env variable or change a setting to force this app to start in Wayland mode because under X11 its scaled funky. What works in each environment? What doesn't work between environments?

Well before you reach the end of this flow chart you have lost virtually all of your users. This transition has single-handedly set the Linux desktop back by 20 years in terms of supporting more users whose level of interest in configuration is limited to clicking a control next to their monitor and making things bigger or smaller.

A saner design would have handled scaling correctly from the start and would have had a permissive mode which just made everything from the users perspective work while progressively adding a correct UI to provide features like global hotkeys, screen sharing, only to those apps users had authorized like android. If it wasn't a such a clusterfuck to use it would have had orders of magnitude more users much earlier in the development phase and perhaps attracted more development interest as well.

  • XWayland doesn't mixed/high DPI properly anywhere but under KDE >= 5.26. On Void I found Plasma's Wayland implementation somewhat flakey and sway completely useless as it didn't handle scaling + xwayland.

  • You just said you don't experience any of the issues I sometimes see on the internet then proceed to describe how an app you use didn't work out of the box, you were able to work around the issue, and then it broke for a reason you don't understand. You follow this up with the number one frustration: Screen sharing being broken.

You forgot mixed DPI being broken on everything but very recent KDE used by around 15% of Linux users. It's not like buying a monitor at worst buy and plugging it into your laptop which has a different DPI is an incredibly uncommon thing at this point.

  • It does suck I'm presently suspended at the moment for abusing the report feature by reporting a Nazi supporting targeting Georgia grand jurors. Not only do they frequently not remove Nazis you can get suspended for reporting Nazis. I'm done with reddit for good. It's a cesspool like Twitter.

  • The open source ecosystem by virtue of being free software just doesn't have those billions of dollars to invest. For office software google docs are sufficient for a whole lot of use cases and easily shareable whereas more complex usage is easily handled by libre office.

Photoshop is legitimately better than alternatives but popular as it is only a tiny fraction of PC users use or need Adobe.

26M vs 2B is approx 1.3% of PCs

I also don't need to select my car based on its ability to haul thousands of pounds of cargo or its performance on a racetrack either.

If we want photoshop for Linux we need to collectively bankroll it. If not there is plenty of space in the market for computers without photoshop because that is by far the majority of computers.
