People saying that support when you present them with a moral issue isn't the same thing as them actually turning up to vote. People have all sorts of opinions about what they ought to do and if you ask them if they intend to exercise, floss their teeth, and support the little chidrens in Africa. This doesn't mean they will be doing ANYTHING of note given a chance.

Track actual attendance at gym, check their teeth, and ask for receipts for their donations to feed the starving kids. You'll find that most of them fell short.

Windows can't be updated in any meaningful way without being rebooted because Windows can't overwrite a file that is in use. This makes it fairly unlikely for a machine to be up for 12 years.

Windows 7 also doesn't "idle in the low MBs" It uses almost 1G at least at startup more if you have apps that auto start and like every OS it caches recently accessed files.

Typically an actual key is effectively just a very long pseaudorandom binary blob and the passphrase is just used to unlock the actual key. This means you can add a new key just by encrypting the actual key with the new passphrase

Setting up encryption has previously been an affirmative step wherein the user opted into being unable to access their data if they lose their password. Because of this users have the opportunity to back up their recovery key you know after they even learn what one is.

Having it happen on upgrade to an existing machine is inherently confusing and its easy to see how it could lead to data loss.

For most folks they could just write down their encryption passphrase in a secure location with the rest of their papers since 99.9% of the risk is thieves stealing their laptops. For most folks the biggest secure item they have is the one they use constantly their browser and all the passwords it stores to all their services. You know the thing they use constantly.

A compartmentalized approach makes sense when the laptop contains really vulnerable data like laptops which have been stolen with bunches of client data on it or a journalists communication with confidential sources etc etc. In that case you STILL want to encrypt the whole thing but you want to separately encrypt the really important stuff with a different key so that every time you open your laptop to watch cat videos on youtube you aren't also unlocking all the data you will have to tell your companies users you lost.

It is very very hard to predict who is going to win even when elections that aren't all that close. Asking people how they would behave especially people who didn't even bother to vote is fraught. People who aren't happy about something are apt to say they would do something about it but they showed more about how motivated they are by not even bothering to show up in actual reality. I think anyone who tells you if you did this they would have voted for you is quite frankly full of shit.

White people voted for Trump because they believed they would be privileged. Men voted for him because they believed they would be privileged. Conservatives voted for him because he would appoint conservative judges Financially ignorant people voted for him because he would cut their taxes and encourage business. Republican's voted for him because him being a Republican was far more important than any other factor. Most people who call themselves independent flatter themselves by saying so and in fact vote Red or Blue 95-99% of the time. Those who lean red were never going to vote for a non-white women running under the blue ticket.

None of these factors had anything to do with Israel or Gaza. People in America are selfish and self centered they were never going to vote differently based on Gaza.

Likewise nobody is owed good feelings by users

If they can't do anything better than jellyfin which is fully free open source I don't see why they should expect money. If Photoshop were paid for gimp they certainly wouldn't deserve anything.

I think the bad feelings are by virtue of taking away something that WAS free. This is just basic human psych people are loss averse.

Polls have been close not only wildly inaccurate but so incredibly spread out that you could find a few to support literally anyone position after the fact.

The smartest thing to do at this point is just block you because you literally don't understand what words mean and when called on literal nonsense just double down on the nonsense.

They were imprisoned by actual drug laws that have nothing to do with the usage of the word war.

You do need an actual war to use wartime emergency powers. There are declared emergencies other than war

The war on drugs has only ever been rhetoric. It never literally gave anyone any additional powers because it is not in any way shape or form a declared war and has no legal meanings other than the ones you have completely fabricated in your alternate history.

He mishandled covid leading to lots of extra death and when they wouldn't elect him again he organized a lynch mob to storm the capitol and we all watched both crisis play out live on TV. None the less 94% of those who consider themselves Republicans voted for Trump in 2024. They are absolutely incapable of learning.

If we literally become the nazis and round up and murder millions before Trump offs himself in a bunker they will find a way to blame it on the Democrats and make Trump the victim then vote for someone who venerates him. We literally can't fix them nor expect them to be fixed. We can only work on the folks in the middle the famous persuadable voter eg those too stupid to have a clear position.

As much as he lies there were LOTS of things he wasn't lying about. Mostly incredibly bad and crazy shit that he said he was going to do and is as we speak trying to do!

We decided we needed to be able to shut down drug dealers by seizing their money without need for any real proof. Since then the majority of seizures, 84%, are civil most incidental to purposeless searches that turn up no crime. Many seizures are in fact under $1000 and most are under $2000. In theory you can get your money back but it often would cost thousands so for most victims its impossible to actually get money back without spending more.

Basically for decades the authorities have been acting as robbers and have collectively stolen billions from the people directly often stopping minorities for driving while black and treating the $400 in random bob's wallet as proceeds of an imaginary crime they don't need to substantiate. Being black and having $400 is enough.

It's not clear the alternative strategy would have helped AT ALL. A very large portion of Americans actually believed that Trump would either help the economy or help the position of white folks and Christians. Everything else was a side show. That is why they elected him. Things were going pretty good economically before the pandemic and white Christians. That is why we elected essentially Hitler because we are stupid bigots.

I feel like any apocalypse is going to see lots of people try to rush to or from somewhere leading to clogged roads that make cars virtually useless until one gets way way into the boondocks.
