  • JK Rowling sounds like an incredibly talented author. Most people just massage things into place. Reuse tropes. But you're saying she baked her worldview into practically every sentence?

If I see ugliness in the world, I might express it as I see it. I don't have to think something is right for me to include it in a story. Do you think I'm special? Am I the only person capable of writing things that I don't necessarily support? Everyone else is forced to include things they personally would vote for. If you write about slavery, that means you love slavery. Is it weird that I'm capable of being against slavery, yet it's possible for me to include it in stories? Should I be using this power?

I didn't realize Rowling was one of the best authors. I thought she just reused things without really thinking. I never knew it was 100% meticulous and so... thought out. I don't think even Tolkien can be said to inject so much meaning into every single page.

  • Hopefully he dies early in production. How's that for winding down?

I wonder if he'd be ok with others wishing he would die. Or is it only acceptable when he's playing a character or working for bigots? In any case I'm sure he finds it all very exciting.

  • Moderators were previously told to remove videos if one-quarter or more of the content violated YouTube policies. Now, that limit has been increased to half.

This seems like alien speak to me. They announce that shit, someone read it, and then repeated it in an article. But what does it mean?

Can you have 6 contents and make 2 really crazy? Can you tell people to commit violence for 5 minutes and then review a game for 6 minutes? Is there a dude with tvtropes open going through and marking the contents of content?

  • I've been deliberately dehumanizing Trumpers for long enough that these articles make no sense to me at first. Who cares if a simple creature had an automatic response we've all known was common? "Extra extra! Man dangles carrot, horse tries to get it!" It's a quaint, goofy society that gets excited over that.

I guess trump supporters superficially resemble human beings but I still don't think it's newsworthy for them to repeat the sounds we make. Just say floopergoop dinglewhams are progressive! and now the parrots say they hate the thing you just made up. How long until people get bored of this?

  • I don't care if it's deliberate or not but there does seem to be some pressure release valves in society preventing meaningful action. I guess that's why alt right pipelines work. It's about capturing pent up energy, stoking it, and siccing it on fascists.

  • Youtube is run like shit. I get frequently told to turn off my adblocker... when I don't even have extensions installed. It's already annoying as fuck dealing with ads but it's some kafka-lite bullshit to be told you're not watching them.

  • Yeah if you assume people aren't antagonistic it almost reads like they're adding on / repeating the sentiment.

"Stop with the lies. Police did x, y, z."

"Police did a, b, c. Stop the lies."

Definitely doesn't sound like they're playing up police in any case

  • Man what is wrong with lemmings. This guy can't even suggest people could act differently without people downvoting (suppressing) his posts. He thinks police are the problem, but people could do something differently to fight back.

And that's incorrect. On lemmy, we say "police are bad" and that's it. Never cast your gaze elsewhere. Never talk about anything else that could change. Police are the problem, end of story, and if you don't agree your sentiments will put on the bottom.

  • You guys are so illiterate. One guy says cops suck. Another guy says "no, fuck you, cops suck." And you just go off vibes. No ability to parse English. "Well he's aggressively replying to someone hating cops, he must love them."

  • I'm not sure what to make of this guy. In this case I guess his animosity towards Russia is conflicting with his "sophisticated nationalism?" He is wanted by Russia because it's illegal in Russia to remove Soviet monuments in Poland. (lmao) But I guess if it doesn't help him build a turbo-Christian Poland then he doesn't want it... he's sorta stuck in the middle.

  • These people are protesting against extrajudicial deportation, deporting children, harassing legal immigrants, the Nazi government, etc.

It's not a fucking immigration protest. They didn't deploy the military for immigration protests. People spoke out against Nazis and the military was called in.

  • A 2021 study by Oxford Economics and the U.S.-China Business Council concluded that the United States lost 245,000 jobs as a result of the Trump tariffs.

They're going to study these tariffs and detail how they fucked America and by the time Republicans do something similar nobody will ever, EVER, bring this up again.

  • "What if we made a party that represented everyone?"

Holy shit, I don't think anyone's thought of that. Jamie, check the web to see if people ever tried creating a party for the rest of us.

Chat, type 1 if you think having a party that represents 80% of America is a good idea.
