  • I know quite a few that are using online resources (like LinkedIn/Indeed/etc...). Its not better (arguably worse). Nowadays theres so much AI trying to pull peoples resumes for free to get training data, its just spam (aka Ghost jobs that was discussed in the Post).

The best interview is one where you know the company, industry, and people working there. So yeah its still mostly word of mouth haha. Thats how I got my last jobs.

  • Its so bad. To do the same stuff you did 10 years ago, you need a computer with 4x the specs for Windows 11 + AI chip and everything is a subscription. meanwhile Ive upgraded my linux laptop once and it runs about 10x with the newest of software updates, steam, etc...etc... Libreoffice is much easier to use than MS products now.

The worst part is you cant opt out of windows AI. It sends your data along no matter what.

  • Ah that might explain things. Im not on lemmy!

Let me see what this looks like on a lemmy server...

ok I see the issue, it auto-sets to English in piefed and hidden from the user. I didnt know lemmy displays the language. I set it to the only other option available.

  • I think in order for both to work towards a better fediverse, there needs to be a "true" sync. Not like the bridge Bluesky is maintaining, we need something to sync both ways. Even if its just a subset with just public posts to begin with.

I know a lot of fediverse software has their own API that extends their own functionality beyond the AP protocol, just to make things more complicated :). But it does help with say bookwyrm needs to know something specific from another bookwyrm instance.

  • Back over 10+ years ago on the original raspberry pi, I made a butler program. Every hour on top of the hour, it would use espeak to say what my schedule was, the current internet usage (there was max usage of 100gb) and a couple of other things. It worked really well for years.

  • Its on my account. I have hundreds of repos over my career. I switched a majority of them over but there is some major projects that use the repos for open source. One has been downloaded over 1.7 million times (im trying not to sound like a humble brag) If I remove them, it could potentially cause downtime. I just disabled all github actions and other things that could potentially cause billing.

  • I have to use Github for work. And prior to all this ive had no real issues with it...other than all the ethical arguments of course.

I have my own forgejo (and codeberg, contributed to lemmy and other projects too). works really well for my tiny projects.
