  • At work, we have a system that has not been updated in many MANY years. Its essential, but because of budget constraints, we cannot update it. Also the new system is SaaS and is 10x (no joke) expensive.

We had around 10 people entering the same documents into the system in a typical form. Its a variation on three different criteria. They spent 40 hours a day just doing this work...

I got tired of having to pull info out of the system and automated it away with Selenium. When my manager saw what it could do, he asked if the document side of things could be done the same way. I created a prototype and boom, solution complete. It been stable for close to a year now. The 10 people now have new responsibilities (most making more $$ from what I hear).

But like the picture above, its a Jank solution. It literally just runs 24x7 throwing things from one system into another system, then pulls the info into another system. And you can see the screen running. But it does work...so im going to call it a success(?)

  • Discoverability is one of the bigger issues. In YouTube there is a huge push to be more discoverable to the algorithm and to keep users on the platform. In peertube there's no such pressure...for better or worse.

  • Some peertube instances do, most do not. Some have manual processes, some don't.

    Ex: https://makertube.net/signup

And no one is stopping anyone from creating their own server. Yunohost even makes it a one click solution.

It's just like Lemmy/fediverse stuff. Each instance provider has their own rules. And that's ok

  • I have a server with less than 100gb that's running it for a year so far. No issues and even has a channel with 100 or so subscribers (literally my dog).

It's p2p capabilities make it pretty easy to distribute videos. And the server admins have the ability to toggle if they want to host other videos from other instances or not. They even have the ability to host specific individual videos if they want to support certain creators. Its a very intelligent system.

If anyone wants to take a look, we have a couple different communities/channels/videos over on !peertube@lemmy.world

  • Have you thought of perhaps hosting your own? If you are concerned about it.

Yunohost has a pretty easy install of peertube. It works pretty well and you can even make videos private for your own family uses if need arises. Gl!

  • Did you have the game on a higher difficulty? I didnt have that experience, but I put it on one of the higher difficulties initially. I forget which but I found that more fun.

Its fair though, it wont be for everyone. Kinda like TemTem. I wanted to like TemTem, but the puzzles really sucked. So much so that I stopped playing the game halfway through.
