Docker is a bit of a pain to learn but it really helps once you start figuring things out!

Anyone know how to set up NPM on truenas scale? I've spent all day trying to get my SSL certs and it fails every damn time. Just says the donation is unknown or that it can't find my npm install 😮‍💨

IMO you should stick with a local device store only. If you're worried about the state getting hold of the data, having any backups is gonna be a liability.

Beyond removing the fedora flatpak repo so your app store prefers flathub, there isn't really anything I think is necessary since steam sorts it all for you nowadays.

If you're really going to stick to aurora or avoid gplay (even a burner account for just your bank would be enough to help you out here), you're gonna be eventually stuck with web/telephone banking.

Anything else risks you getting flagged as suspicious by your bank, or at the very least opening your own attack surface to the same app by someone else.

I see the benefits, but I also see the risks. A lot of the social stuff right now is up to the altruism and expertise of instance admins, which cannot always be guaranteed. Not to mention the risks that one user's abuse (eg. scams, contraband sales) could shut down the entire venture.

I think there needs to be a federated protocol to handle payments that also has some protections for buyers and sellers alike, but without the explicit backing of banks it simply cannot exist within the world of fiat currencies.

Obviously, you could build this with cryptocurrencies, but that limits your users and of course many people will never touch crypto with a ten foot pole

Yeah, I'd obviously want all these devs in Linux but BSD and Redox and many others will thoroughly appreciate their talents in the meantime.

Nothing, it's just that the little applets and widgets people make for switching usually assume iGPU = Intel and dGPU = NVidia, which always feels a bit goofy if you're not using that (increasingly less common) hardware config. Identical otherwise tho

Yeah port forwarding just isnt the same. I pretty heavily rely on Nextcloud and Plex doing the port forwarding for me
