  • Thank god I switched to Linux on my Desktop. And I also have a Macbook and I love it. I guess I can consider myself a Unix guy.

  • That's a very extreme view, my friend. A lot of Youtubers come up with good products. For example, LevelOneTechs has come up with a pretty good KVM that a lot of mainstream companies haven't been able to perfect. So I enjoy it when Youtubers advertise their merch.

  • The story behind Senerenity OS is quite amazing:

It was October 2018 and I had just completed a 3-month rehab program at a state addiction clinic in Sweden. I was unemployed, staying with family, and had basically nothing going on.

With no drugs or other vices to pass the time, the days seemed impossibly long. I struggled to find activities to fill them. I enrolled in school for a while, but it wasn’t for me this time either. Eventually I turned to programming, since it’s always been my big interest in life.

Until that point, my career had been focused on web browsers (WebKit at Apple & Nokia). However, I had always been interested in low-level things so I began tinkering with some of that. I wrote a little ELF executable parser.. And an Ext2 filesystem browser.. And a little GUI framework with an event loop..

Out of this tinkering, an operating system began to take shape. I chose the name SerenityOS because I wanted to always remember the Serenity Prayer. I was quite worried about my future at the time, and I figured that this name would help me stay on the good path.

My general idea was to build my own dream system for daily use. It would be a combination of my two favorite computing paradigms: the 1990s GUI and the no-nonsense command-line of late-2000s Unix.

  • Same here. Everytime I go to Montréal, I'm amazed by their transit.

  • The problem with this is that the battery capacity will be greatly reduced, meaning it will need to be replaced sooner than normal.

  • Your PC will soon be be junk if you do not want to try out Linux.

  • For the life of me, I don't understand why they rebranded themselves. HBO is such a recognized brand. I was confused at first about what Max was.

  • Well, you vote with your wallet. This is what happens when gamers pre-order incomplete games and scream about the state of the game on social media: you get crap products like this.

Money is the only thing that appeals to companies. If people would just vote with their wallets, we wouldn't have this situation.

  • But the problem is the general public. People who have it enabled won't be able to visit his website.

  • Slowly but surely. Reddit has had 18 years to build a base of 500 million.

  • The apps page now has sections for Android, iOS, and web apps, as well as libraries. Feel free to do a pull request to add any apps that are missing.

It would be great if the apps page was also filterable (Android, iOS, etc). Because I was initially confused when I saw the page, seeing the Android apps and not realizing the iOS section was further down. And new apps are being developed all the time, so the page will be overwhelming.

  • The problem with dating apps is the commodification of human relationships. The way people use these apps is too superficial. They're looking for the perfect man or woman, so if there's something they don't like or that person has a flaw, they don't take the time to really get to know them on a deep level. There's a lot to choose from! FOMO!

Perfection does not exist in this world and we must really try to connect on a deep level. Unfortunately, some people use these apps for window shopping and shallow relationships.

  • Voyager is best in iOS at it was heavily inspired by the ex-App Apollo.

  • I avoid them like the plague. My last flight with them was from Toronto to Dubai. Absolutely horrible service. They ran out of chicken and only had a vegetarian dish and only served us one meal, which is ridiculous for a 14 hour flight. And the customer service is awful.

I am now trying to find alternatives, even if they are a bit more expensive.
