  • why is inflation necessary again?

    stock market go brrr

If a company makes less profit than last quarter, no matter how many billions in profit that actually comes out to or how satisfied the customers are with the company's products, investors will be sad and the line will go down. If a company makes more profit than last quarter, the line goes up regardless of if that growth is actually sustainable long term because that's not our problem right now. All that matters is we can tell investors we had record profits this quarter, the executives get to take home their million dollar bonuses, and the line doesn't go down until after those execs leave for even greener pastures.

So, a company can't just be good at what it does at the scale that it does it, it must grow constantly like a cancerous tumor in order to stay attractive to investors. When people are flush with cash you squeeze it out of them as fast as you possibly can because, again, the future doesn't matter right now and anyways they'll just give it to someone else if you don't take it first. Sell products that don't last very long so the customer keeps coming back. Raise prices and cut staff when times are anything less than stellar but never under any circumstances lower prices or give workers more than the lowest amount it takes to keep them working, because that means less profit which means the line will go down which means the execs don't get their bonuses and that is a fate worse than death.

  • Something I admire about the fallout show that just came out is it actually has quite a few callbacks to the original source material (a boy and his dog, 1975) that inspired the first Fallout game. There are probably other influences that would be fun to learn about and it conceivably could be taken further to make a completely standalone series, and now I'm wondering what something like that would look like.

  • Well they actually don't write that realistically, these are copy and paste bots that are just trying to farm karma so they can later sell the account (which I've heard is a thing apparently?). You can see the left is all original accounts by the uniqueness of their usernames and the copied posts on the right are all reddit generated names.

  • Do yourself a favor and get real pseudoephedrine. Phenylephrine dries my sinuses out so much that it actually hurts and I have to use nasal ointments that only seem to help what I can reach with them for like 5 minutes at a time. Pseudo (+mucinex if needed for thicker mucus) honestly feels like going back to baseline in comparison.

  • I can't stand when people do this. It's beyond frustrating when I've put effort into a relationship and just get this in return. Like I would literally drop everything for you at a moment's notice and you can't even commit to meeting up next week or have the decency to be honest with me so I don't waste my time preparing for you and can make other plans.

What the actual fuck, like am I doing something wrong or did it become okay at some point to treat your friends like this?? Cause it makes me feel like shit when it happens and it happens way too often.

  • oh my god this drives me absolutely nuts when I'm looking for help I received months ago and distinctly remember enough to put into a search bar but can't go back to the actual conversation... even though it is clearly saved somewhere since it still comes up in search!!!

  • I've actually been to sushi restaurants where you pay per person and the entire menu is all you can eat. The waiter leaves a menu with you and checks on you periodically so you can order a roll or two per person at a time. We were vacationing in Florida and apparently it's a relatively common thing down there.

It's probably easier on a sushi chef too to stagger orders instead of doing them all at once, cause they'll have to be put together and rolled up one after another anyways. It's not like a burger joint where you can toss multiple orders on the grill or in the deep fryer at once and then toss all of the ingredients loosely onto plates.

  • Some idiot decided it would be a good idea to set up apartments buildings all around artificial ponds that serve absolutely no purpose but to look pretty and be breeding grounds for both mosquitoes and these obnoxious bastards. No skating in the winter, no swimming in the summer, maybe fishing but I doubt they're stocked with anything. Yet still, early morning, late night, mid afternoon; every waking moment of my life is plagued by canadian geese honking and shitting everywhere only to prove that they are the loudest creature in the vicinity.
