  • Sorry to add this so late, but TV news just told me about an increase in "Teflon Flu". Remembering you had non-stick pans, I wanted to find a link. In a quick check, the majority of the links seemed to come from somewhat suspicious sources such as NYPost and Daily Mail rather than a .gov or .edu.

I'm not saying this is a legitimate thing, but if anyone wants a starting point, you could try here: https://www.womenshealthmag.com/health/a61623919/teflon-flu-symptoms/

  • In this particular case, Reuters seems to be pushing the narrative that there's a Border Crisis.

The dominant players in the illicit opioid trade – the Mexican cartels that manufacture most of the drugs and smuggle them into America– have been the subject of detailed reporting over the years. Now, as the first news organization to buy and test fentanyl’s essential ingredients, Reuters has penetrated the hidden sub-industry that makes the cartel operations possible: the international supply chain of precursor chemicals.

For comparison the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports:

Nearly three-fourths of those caught attempting to smuggle fentanyl into the U.S. since October 2022 were U.S. citizens, and they brought in more than half of all fentanyl seized by U.S. authorities, the officials said.

  • They know they done bad. They're already claiming everyone misheard him and that he didn't really say "colored". They claim he said "college".

From Raw Story, "Fox News has asserted that Kilmeade simply didn't speak clearly and he in fact said "a college sorority."

By the time The Independent was looking into it, the Fox statement was that news has “completely misquoted and unnecessarily maligned Brian Kilmeade who clearly said college sorority.

They're escalating into another indignant outrage that they're right and everyone else is wrong.

  • -- but you've been to a 7-11, right? They are franchised, so maybe you have a good one, but some are rather sketchy. Though, to be fair: the super sketchy one a town over actually closed down before covid, so I may be painting with too broad a brush.

  • Okay, so if glass is too heavy, then I'm guessing cast iron is right out.

Any pan is going to get that sticky grease. Fats (including oils) polymerize at high heat. That's how people intentionally season cast iron cookware, but you're seeing it where you don't want it. The easiest thing to do is accept that you are getting an extra coating of 'protection'. Otherwise, maybe see if this link's boill-with-vinegar suggestion helps? https://food52.com/blog/25458-how-to-care-for-nonstick-pans

  • I misinterpreted your first sentence.... until I read the rest of your comment.

I thought you were saying null results shouldn't be published. Hackles go up. Keep reading angrily. Ohhhh.... ALL results should be publicly available! We'll that's very different!

I do have a nitpick, though: if the internet has taught us nothing else, it is that all kinds of scammers, influencers, conspiracy theorists, deniers, and exploiters will ALL post lies and disinformation in any unvetted space they can find. Somebody has got to do some curation and somebody has to pay them enough to ensure that work gets done.

  • If you've seen the original Blue Brothers movie, you've heard a snippet of 'Hold On' and another Sam & Dave hit, "Soul Man". I'm told they were fantastic live but not so much in studio. Back in the 60s the chorus might as well be a porn quote given radio stations were squeamish about playing something so 'explicit', but the writers maintained it was simply about rushing back to song writing. HBO recently released a short documentary series about their original label, Stax which covers the big concert the label threw, WattStax. I recommend all of that as better than trying to hunt down random Sam & Dave songs.

  • D.C. Metro runs from about 5am-midnight on weekdays, but on weekends it doesn't start until 7. In the suburbs, you can drive to a commuter parking lot and leave your car for the workday. You are generally expected to drive your car home each night from there and they DO charge a pretty serious fee (especially given that you'd also be paying for the commute).

Metro offers premium, guaranteed parking at 35 rail stations for a monthly fee of either $45.00 or $65.00 (plus the regular daily parking rate, which varies by station).

  • Biden gave a great State of the Union Address in March. Yes, it was all on teleprompter, but he moved like a normal old guy, not the careful shuffling he's been doing lately. I'm thinking Biden's decline has been uneven and rapid. Yes, he's old, but he wasn't acting old all the time until very, very recently.

I'm glad he's giving himself a chance to slow down. I think he needs it and deserves it.

I'm glad to vote for Harris. And like you said, I'd also vote for Jimmy Carter or even a Yellow Dog if that's who's chosen to go against Trump.
