I love my mum, a lot, but whenever we soend time together, something builds up between us until she explodes in a tirade of telling me all the things about me that she dislikes. Could take months, could take years. After hearing it all enough times, I finally decided it's easier to just to remove the problem of spending time together to free her up to spend it with people whose company she actually enjoys. Much better for my mental/emotional health.

My Dad has a family that visit him, and have been known to wander into the house and ask for food. They also bring their fledglings to visit each season. It is super, super cute to see my gruff old Dad chatting away to his magpies. The old softy keeps insects for them.

ETA: a family of magpies, not just, like, a random family who wander in asking for food...

40. Way better than expected.

opened my front door today, and a maggie was outside my front gate. It was completely unfussed by my ratbag younger dog losing his shit at the sight of a magpie, and instead proceeded to tease/warble at him through the fence. It was very cute.

I dont really speak to my mother anymore. tonight, for the first time in several decades, I got a little baked, chilled by the fire and then decided not to worry about Mothers Day at all...

Have had a contemplative sunday. Am recovering from surgery, resting in bed, thinking about hiw/why I havent really spoken to my very elderly mother in years. Is this the painkillers talking, or sensibility?

I mean, it's an excellent cafe. The back of house staff are all the same. I've also done some digging, and as I suspected, the owners have a bunch of cafes around Melbourne - I think they probably share/rotate staff

There's a cafe I have been coming to every tuesday morning for months. I dont think I've ever seen the same staff more than a few weeks running.

can anyone recommend a genuinely good (jewellry) engraver in the CBD? I used to go to the old dude in port phillip arcade, but he stopped during COVID.

ditto. I took a break one day for "just a bit" and never went back. Have a glass extremely occasionally, but don't miss it a jot.
