  • Yeah that makes sense. And I don't mean you personally. My commentary was to solidify that many have criticized Braxman but from my perspective we need voices like his to bring awareness to privacy issues caused by Big Tech. We need different options and information in order to make informed choices. So I don't know why people would shit on someone offering information and alternatives.

  • I suppose your level of enthusiasm for this offering tracks strongly with how credible you consider Rob Braxman. I have heard people here and elsewhere say he's a quack or even a psyop. I do know that he's one of the few sources to talk about client side scanning, the illusory nature of Apple's "privacy" and other modern privacy issues.

We need robust options for privacy. Googled Android and Apple iOS are horrible options for genuine anonymity and privacy. So, I welcome any competition in this space.

  • In many areas of the US, this just means both parents work and have solidly middle-class (but by no means extravagant) incomes. My wife and I both work and we can cover the mortgage, all the expenses related to our kid, home ownership expenses, modest savings, etc. We are certainly not buying luxury cars or Gucci bags. Our big spends involve housing, healthcare costs, food costs.

I'm not sure who these people are who are affording discretionary purchases of hobby related stuff and luxury goods. That's probably more like the 1-2%. Either that or people are amassing debt so they can look the part and "keep up with the Joneses".

  • As much as Harris claimed to like Venn diagrams, she didn't seem to understand that "people who value Dick Cheney's opinion" is a very small circle that doesn't overlap at all with the "people who might consider voting for Kamala Harris" circle.

  • That's not exactly true. While there is gun trafficking over the US southern border, the cartels have access to much larger orders of military hardware because they purchase firearms that "fell off the truck" from corrupt paramilitary orgs and security forces in central and South America.

You don't need to piecemeal acquire semi-auto Glocks when you can get crates of full-auto AKs and ammo all in one go.

  • It is a pretty good experience, especially with upscaling of older systems.

My favorite is when games have been decomp/ported so they have quality of life improvements. This allows for stuff like widescreen 60-fps Perfect Dark.

  • Honestly all of this bullshit is why I went with a Steamdeck a few years ago. As a working adult with a family I have different economic obligations and priorities.

I need to build a new PC soon (mine is now 10 years old) but I can't justify spending $5K on a gaming rig. If I built now with a flagship card, just the card itself would cost more than I spent on my entire rig when I built it in 2014/2015. Pair that with Microsoft's ridiculous operating system enshittification, and the PC situation gets even more complicated for me.

Consoles have gotten to be a bad value proposition for me as well. Paper launches, scalping during the pandemic, DRM etc., services going offline. All that garbage leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

I'm having a decent enough time with Steam sale games, Indy games, and retro emulation.

  • Biden took a protectionist action by blocking a Japanese company's purchase of a major US Steel company. Trump took further protectionist action by tariffing foreign steel.

Now both of those may have backfired because the market manipulation prevented outside investors from modernizing US steel production facilities, and protective tariffs by definition raise prices.

In effect it is less competition and crappier product for US consumers.

  • 90% of it is idiots reporting deer/coyote sightings or falsely reporting fireworks as "gunshots?!?!" at 1:00am. I have literally been woken up by stupid Ring notifications more than by the fireworks themselves.

  • I think your theory is plausible. On the YT smart TV app, the ads seem to be increasingly about unpleasant things like dick pills, period pads, and constipation treatments. I think they literally serve up unsavory ad content as a way of punishing you into shelling out for a subscription. Jokes on them, I just switched to SmartTube.

  • Respectfully, do some reading of even middleschool level history books. He didn't personally decide to "be mean" to particular groups. His worldview was shaped by the post WWI dynamics in Europe, latent stereotypes and domestic problems within Germany, and a whole lot of misapplied emerging science. He literally believed in racial supremecy and was trying to build an ethnostate. This motivated him to define groups of ethnic "undesirables" and also to lump in other groups that he found politically inconvenient. Read about the scapegoating of Jews circa that time. He likely believed his cruelty towards them was somehow justified because he laid all of Germany's problems (economic issues, humiliation of the country and loss of territory post-WWI) at their feet.

TL; DR - Bad actors believe their evil behavior is justified.
