  • Lol because my dumbass didn't add up that a kilt also exposes my mismatched socks.

Problem is I have a wool sock interest, so they're so expensive. My next batch of socks will be fruit of the loom 12pack though. I actually dumped all my socks out yesterday to take inventory.

I wear sandles but I find that I need to clean them all the time so they don't smell like feet.

  • kil

I know a couple people who wear kilts (I think one introduced it to the other).

I know from wearing towels and robes that I would enjoy a kilt. Pants are great but they are less comfortable in the heat of the summer.

I don't really care for shorts since then I have to worry about matching socks.

  • I also use sticky notes like @RedHandsome@kbin.social. I've tried electrical tape but I don't like how it goes gunky after a while.

I have a lutron maestro light switch that has LED lights, but I like it. I can see it when I walk to the bathroom at night or when I walk into the apartment and it's dark. I also like the LEDs in my keyboard. But that's it. I have my monitor lights covered, and the USB charger, router, and power bar lights might end up with similar treatments soon.

  • Doesn't matter too much to me. One is Dewalt and the other Ryobi. I like them both but I prefer yellow over green. The Ryobi has a large battery that lasts a very long time. The Dewalt has better ergonomics and is older, the batteries are gone (but that's the benefit of having two drills/four batteries). I've dropped the Dewalt a bunch. The Ryobi is quieter and smoother torque at variable speeds.

I've eyed Festool for their sanders and dust collection, but soo expensive I don't think I could buy them unless I'm getting paid for my work.

  • That's true email is out there, but it's different because it's an protocol like TCP/UDP, HTTP. Federation is the same way, but the fediverse isn't and unlike SMTP the fediverse will be updated and changed frequently. I read another comment which made me think of this a little differently and now I'm maybe less against, more middle. Luckily we have a living experiment with Lemmy.ml and lemmy.world to see how this pans out.

  • Can't even remember now but I'm sure I'll put something up later. I didn't really understand why people moderated before for free but it's nice to contribute to something other than work. Like online volunteering.

  • Yes.

Also it looks like some images from posts are kind of gone

  • Possible that they've had access for days, and different accounts were breached at different times.

  • Been busy for lemmy team lately hopefully it's not too much

  • Had an issue at work not long ago involving stolen tokens and back then it looked as if the token was scraped along with a lot of other web traffic and then about 12 days later they gained access.

  • Commenting a lot more here like I used to in forum days. Most of the threads I read I post in.

I tried to make a post yesterday but it stalled out.

The reason I comment more now is because I want to participate and I'm taking 'the internet' less seriously. This isn't real life.

  • Allowing their platform access to the fediverse is giving them something they want in exchange for access to a larger user base for us. It's a form of trade or negotiation, however you want to look at it it's a choice to exchange something of value.

You're looking short term. The issue here is that Meta is going to be able to destroy the fediverse later, not right away.

  • Not totally sure, but I don't think that negotiating with Threads on anything at any point is a winning strategy. They'll win every time. Kind of a 'give them an inch they take a mile' situation in my head.

At least by staying separate the user base will have to make a conscious decision about where they want to spend time instead of letting Meta dictate that for them in the future.

It is harmful either way. Not a great situation for fediverse. I wouldn't say defed is useless, it clearly does something. Effective? Not sure.

  • It's about threads becoming the fediverse by virtue of their size and resources, and then making changes to the protocols which ultimately lock out the actual fediverse. It will be 'fediverse, by Meta' where everything is hosted and run by meta.

  • Oh I guess I wasn't clear, but I absolutely see this in myself. That's how I came to this conclusion recently because I've been cutting back so much and I realized that I can't, I just can't. I need a beer on the weekend, I need to enjoy a meal at a restaurant every once in a while, I love the convenience of using a car to get somewhere.

But I am for sure judgy of people who seem to make zero effort and take any intrusion on their lifestyle to be 'too much'. I mean driving 2 blocks to the grocery store? Really. They are able bodied people.
