Think about it... housing, medical care, transportation. These need to keep up with population growth. If growth is achieved through immigration, then you need infrastructure to support more people. I'm in Canada, immigration has been seen as a positive thing for a long time, but there is a resource squeeze right now and increasing immigration is seen as adding fuel to the fire.
We are trying to address those issues, but it would have been a lot better to put infrastructure in place before aiming to increase the population size.
No it doesn't. You'd have to support nazi ideas to be a nazi, but how distant that connection can be applied I'm not sure. The left and right are calling each other nazis lately so I guess it can reach a long way.
If you think about it in terms of species adaptation, then liberalism is what allows our society to integrate changes and conservatism is what helps maintain stability. We need both and in different proportions at different times to adapt to our constantly changing social and physical environment.
I agree with this but we aren't talking about castings votes here and I'm assuming OP is voting as if he is a sane person, but what are they supposed to do with the values they hold that don't align with liberalism?
That was like 15 years ago as I remember it. Being a conservative was about being a fiscal responsibility, and there was an expectation that we were all moving in the same direction socially. Now it's all messed up.
Not to get too sidetracked but part of what isn't working about capitalism is what is coming down the pipe with climate change. Capitalism does work, but market socialism looks like an upgrade to me. People over profits.
This is my issue as well. There is nothing inherently wrong with conservative politics, but most arguments I see about politics online are about highly charged topics instead of actual policy discussion. Lots of heated emotions from people whose easiest outlet is anger doesn't make for good conversations.
It often feels like we represent media interests and are arguing on behalf of whatever source we spend the most time immersed in.
I watched 'Till' last night (if you don't know the story, Emmett Till was lynched when he visited his cousins in Mississippi in the '50s. The murderers were identified by multiple witnesses, but the local jury found them not guilty. Till was a 14 year old black kid whose infraction was telling a white lady she looked like a movie star, and then doing a dog-whistle).
A lot of what was happening back then looks like what is happening to LGBT now. It's wild. They'll keep ramping it up, they aren't anywhere near where they want to be and they have the power and support to make it happen.
The port workers in Vancouver BC also just landed a good deal after striking for a little bit.
I can imagine that UPS drivers would have a lot of leverage since UPS would suffer massively if they couldn't deliver packages.
Westjet union also struck a new deal recently. I think it was something like 30% increase, captains making in neighbourhood of 300k.
I'm definitely very interested in joining a labour union for my next job. Tech workers should be looking to unionize.
I'm not sure tech workers could do UPS jobs or UPS workers could do tech jobs. Different types of people. I think some of the frustration could come from the fact that one requires advanced education. Ideally we're all paid 'enough' and then some are paid more/less depending on skill. Tech workers on average might be better, but it's still not enough in high COLAs to live in comfortable apartment and raise a family without stressing about money.
Being able to spend money. I don't know what will happen with farming and other things but the premise is the same as any other form of currency. Provide value, get rewarded, buy stuff.
I don't think they will be owning anything that's why I mentioned it feels like a serfdom.
There is still strong anti-crypto sentiment in social media so I'm not surprised to get this type of reply but it does seem charged or emotional rather than curious. Is there something about blockchain or digital currency that makes you angry or irritated?
It's the party vs. the people. The people are Americans and the party has members who are Americans, and these people still largely support access to abortion.
Interesting idea but it's still too close to the reddit platform. Looks a lot like reddit gold, except you can take your 'gold' elsewhere. This is a cool idea, despite the knee jerk reactions in this thread.
It's a partial step towards a DAO, but looks rushed, half baked, and done for the wrong reasons. Some reddit profits will trickle into this currency. If they wanted to provide actual benefits instead of just making themselves rich they'd distribute profits to CP holders and allow CP holders some governance roles site-wide instead of being boxed into a community. Serfdom vibes.
