  • My comment doesn't add to this conversation, but I'm curious about why you quote the entirety of the comment that you were responding directly to.

I'm not going to tell you what you can and can't do, but it seems pointless and a waste of screen space to me, so I'd like to understand why some people do this if you don't mind sharing.

It's really not a big deal though, I'm just interested in the why.

My guess has always been that it's a habit from forum days. Does that ring true for you?

  • Early Zionists even openly acknowledged that the only way for them to escape persecution was to persecute and expel the inhabitants of Palestine.

And it doesn't change the fact that Israel and Zionists still the Holocaust as an excuse for their actions.

  • One of the federal [emphasis mine] charges against Mangione, murder through use of a firearm, makes him eligible for the death penalty if convicted.

Mangione has pleaded not guilty to state charges.

  • His approval ratings were low and falling well before the start of this onslaught. He is using this "war" as a way to stay in power for longer and to not face the various criminal charges against him.

Wanting a ceasefire does not mean they want a free Palestine.

  • I didn't get the impression that the other commenter was laughing about BBC's use of the term.

I assumed they were doubting the health ministry's reliability/accuracy, but maybe I've just become jaded after dealing with so many Zionazis online.

  • Your comment did not make clear what you found funny, but having come across so many similar comments before I assumed it was that the data was not reliable due to it being the "Hamas-run health ministry".

If you found the continued use of that term by the BBC funny, then my previous comment is irrelevant.

  • Literally the first paragraph:

The UN's Human Rights Office has condemned the high number of civilians killed in the war in Gaza, saying its analysis shows close to 70% of verified victims over a six-month period were women and children.

  • A jack of all trades is something that does a lot of things reasonably well. I'd argue that Linux is exactly that.

Your only issue seems to be with certain types of games not working. That's not the fault of Linux (as others have explained), but it seems like a fairly niche situation, so I don't think it applies to your "jack off all trades" argument.

Would you say that MacOS is not a "jack off all trades"? It does a much poorer job with games than Linux...

  • This is what always frustrates me when people complain about GIMP's UI!

The common opinion is to "make it more like Photoshop", but Photoshop is absolutely not beginner friendly - most of those people are just familiar with it already.

I remember being completely lost and constantly getting annoyed when I first started using Photoshop.

  • In summary, it claims that Google falsely told publishers that adopting AMP would enhance load times, even though the company’s employees knew that it only improved the “median of performance” and actually loaded slower than some speed optimization techniques publishers had been using. It alleges that AMP pages brought 40% less revenue to publishers. The complaint states that AMP’s speed benefits “were also at least partly a result of Google’s throttling. Google throttles the load time of non-AMP ads by giving them artificial one-second delays in order to give Google AMP a ‘nice comparative boost.‘”

The main reason so many news sites adopted AMP is because it was a requirement from Google for articles to qualify for their Top Stories. As soon as that requirement was removed the number of non-AMP links spiked and has been rising ever since.

    Fuck Google.

  • I think it's just a matter of explaining instances in a clear and concise way. This isn't a Lemmy-specific issue though - it's a problem for all of the fediverse.

https://join-lemmy.org/instances says "You can access all content in the lemmyverse from any server, so it doesn't matter which one you choose.", but that still leaves some things unanswered.

It seems to have done a decent job of helping new users find a suitable server with a few simple questions though.
