  • I bought a DeWalt cordless tool years ago. Ended up sticking with Dewalt because batteries are not compatible between different brands.

Honestly surprised nobody has thought of selling an adapter. I could see this working well for contractors of different trades. 1 contractor uses Dewalt, but another uses Milwaukee. That's okay, just bring the adapter and you can borrow the battery from that person(s) regardless of their brand affinity.

  • This is definitely something you need to discuss with a local structural engineer. They will know the local code and how much can be supported. Also these types of garages are typically very bare bones in terms of structure so definitely going to be reinforced to support the roof AND addition. Otherwise it's going to cave in. Plus you have to take into consideration adding new electrical, plumbing and HVAC ducts.

To get it done right. $60K for something of this magnitude doesn't seem feasible, but I live in an area with a higher cost of living. So definitely find a good GC in your area and ask them about the deliverables/quotes.

  • Placing pixels is hardly giving reddit anything of value. Logging in to an account. Contributing your time, content (posts/comments), and moderating on the other hand is "helping" them build their system.

Also I am pretty sure bots are ripping r/place up right now, so it's even more useless. Right now this event is a massive drain on their resources (server/cloud costs). Even as we speak, the instability of reddit is increasing across the site (seeing multiple page errors across the site), and thus decreased actual traffic, and thus decreased advertising revenue.

Would hate to be an SRE for reddit at this point. Servers probably on fire lol

  • I can understand why auto manufacturers don’t want to implement Android Auto/Apple CarPlay into their vehicles — namely licensing costs.

But I have never been a fan of auto manufacturer specific infotainment systems. Clunky. App integration and connection usually flaky. Poor support after 1-2 years.

Usually just end up defaulting to an AUX cord and using my phone for road entertainment.

  • I thought you had to buy awards to give out (or included as part of paid or “premium” Reddit). So they are killing a source of income or reducing the feature set?

Lol. Glad my only contribution to that site was shit posts and whatever ad revenue they can squeeze or get past my ad blocker.

  • Reading climate change articles always reminds me of this monologue from the antagonist in Westworld:

I think humanity is a thin layer of bacteria on a ball of mud hurtling through the void. I think if there was a God, he would’ve given up on us long ago. He gave us a paradise and we used everything up. We dug up every ounce of energy and burned it. We consume and excrete, use and destroy. Then we sit here on a neat little pile of ashes, having squeezed anything of value out of this planet, and we ask ourselves, “Why are we here?” You want to know what I think your purpose is? It’s obvious. You’re here along with the rest of us to speed the entropic death of this planet. To service the chaos. We’re maggots eating a corpse
