Would be nice if companies can spin up their own (lemmy|mastodon|...) instances and push out releases there. No more "blue check marks" to verify authenticity or relying on the platform to be stable. If it comes from @public.apple.com, then it's guaranteed to be authentic.

Interesting. But aren’t hashes unique to a specific photo? Just a single change to the photo would inevitably change its hash.

I think Apple was going to implement a similar system and deploy to all iPhones/Macs in some iOS/macOS update. However was eventually 86’d due to privacy concerns from many people and the possible for abuse and/or false positives.

A system like this might work on a small scale though as part of moderating tools. Not sure where you would get a constantly updated database of CSAM hashes though.

So true. But personally it feels like an extension of work when I go out with coworkers. Some of them we have nothing in common, different age groups, and even different generations. The only thing in common is: work.

I don’t care if companies want to waste resources on buying commercial properties. But don’t force people to go back to the stupid office. It worked for the past 3 years. Profits are higher than ever. People got to spend more time with their families since hours were no longer wasted commuting and sitting in traffic.
