  • I use Autokey to automate many, many small things. I have abbreviations I type for words, and phrases and it replaces them for me.

Going further I use talon voice for voice control of the system.

I say things like "check work email" or "search duck" etc, and it does as it's meant to. Took a while to get setup, and comfortable. But now done I am so much faster talking, rather than typing.

In one voice command for example, talon goes to my browser, selects the appropriate tab, finds the search input, enters a search phrase, including using clipboard contents, and then, selects the result, so it can load.

In terms of keys it's maybe (rough count) 21 keystrokes. All one in one voice command. Game changer.

However, talon voice is NOT open source, and I don't love that. As the community put in huge amounts of time and resources to extend it. Which is risky, as enshitification can come on projects like this. For now, things are good.

  • Play / Pause button is missing.

Sorry mate, the most I can give you is $20. Take it or leave it.

  • I have used OMV for years. Great system.

    I remote in using zeroTier.

It's installed on the OMV server, and I have it on all my devices.

That puts all my devices on a virtual "local network" so I can explore my shared folders, log into the OMV admin panel, etc, anywhere in the world.

Has been working beautifully for me, for years.

    I hope that helps.

  • You can if you wish. You just choose not to. Like so many of us. If more did volunteer, the problem would disappear. It's that simple.

  • I just typed "african mouse" into both bing, and ddg. I got EXACTLY the same results. Which I kind of expected . Same order, everything. However, my understanding is, that DDG obfuscates the user, and doesn't track. This is my hope, and why I use it.

  • I have to admit I still have some legacy code that does that.

Then I found pandas. Life changed for the better.

Now I have lots if old code that I'll update, "one day".

However, even my old code, terrible as it is, does not overheat anything, and can process massively larger sets of data than 60,000 rows without any issue except poor efficiency.

  • I got my message this week past. I feel I've finally connected.

  • Try and spend time with them, even if it seems so boring at the time.

Now that the little guy has all grown up and left home, I miss him so much.

I'd do it all again and spend 10 times the amount of time with them.

  • Look, as an Aussie who first visited a year ago to NZ, I was smitten. I seriously considered moving to NZ. But my God, the cost of everything is so expensive. How are you all living and surviving there?!

  • I kid you not.

    J Borrows mechanical.

Brown switches. Backlit. With proper transparent keys. Soft grippy risers. Beautiful form factor. Feels amazing.

    AUD$70

They killed it. I'm super impressed.

  • I have yes. And I'd forgotten. Thank you. Adds an extra layer.

  • That'll do Donkey.. That'll do.

Edit. I mean it. That calming way shrek says it. The idea that enough has been done, and that everything is OK. That I'm ok. It's a lovely, and powerful moment in the film that translates to so many day to day situations.

  • This is one evil ass company. I think, although it sounds... pessimistic... this is Virtue signalling.

Either they did something pretty evil recently, that is even more evil than their normal evil, or they are about to.

  • Don't pay it. In Australia they're trying, and I remind them they get paid well, get paid overtime, get paid a pension, and get paid more to take holidays. After being paid all that, why is the shitty machine prompting a tip?

  • Oh, hell no. We are absolutely tiny.

It's very much a trust-based situation as we all work together and in a small team.

I would actually love to know how to handle remote shutdown of PCs and lock out and things like that, for as we do grow, we are getting busier, and starting to expand.

  • Surely though if it is fully GPL, then new assets can be created by the community and the originals are no longer required?
