  • Years ago, a coworker told me about someone famous who had died that morning. I don’t remember who, only that it was someone who I had heard good things about, was well liked, and seemed like a nice person.

I was actually sad to hear about it. I probably would have gone weeks without hearing about their death otherwise, and it wouldn’t have bothered me as much. Instead, my morning was ruined by someone who just wanted to be the first to tell people, and treated the news like it was merely another piece of trivia.

I decided right then and there not to share bad news without a reason. Sometimes people need to hear unpleasant things, of course, and I don’t dodge that responsibility. There’s no reason to pointlessly spread negativity, though, especially when the information isn’t particularly essential to anyone.

I don’t know why I typed that. It’s basically the exact opposite of what you asked. Uh… sorry!

  • “Woke” has become a derisive term used by conservatives to describe anyone/anything socially conscious. It’s often part of a rant (or general line of thinking) involving “what’s wrong with this country/the younger generation”. For example, if you’re against things like racism, sexism, or homophobia, I’d call you a decent human being, but a conservative would likely call you “woke”.

This is the kind of “insult” that says more about the person using it than it does about you.

  • Well shit, we couldn’t get Israel to acknowledge or respect borders in the past. There were no consequences then, so why should the Israeli government suddenly start caring now? They’ll take whatever they want, and the most that America might do is make a qualified, watered down complaint while still providing Israel with whatever military aid they ask for.

  • People want to be treated like human beings regardless of who they love? Yes, that’s a dangerously extreme view. Wanting to exterminate them all is perfectly normal, however.

  • lol that was the one I watched after posting that comment!

  • That was much funnier and much more entertaining and interesting than I ever would have guessed.

  • I know what you mean, but I try to remind myself to blame Putin specifically. The Russian people are victims, too. Even some of the most rabid ones have just been fed too much propaganda. Of course, some are simply hateful assholes, but they don’t represent the majority.

I think the same is true of China. The CCP is the problem, not your average Chinese citizen.

  • Thank you for providing such a short, powerful, accurate answer.

  • Good.

People who have been the victim of a real hate crime should despise this guy. All he’s done is give smug, ignorant jerks one more reason to deny the seriousness of the race problem in America.

  • I’m merely hoping for a competent judge who accepts logic and the scientific method. Not even a great judge, just a basically sane and reasonable one.

I remember when I used to take that for granted. I’m having an “ignorance is bliss” moment.

  • You’re probably right. Good catch.

  • Very, very few. I figure that all large companies are awful in one way or another; the only difference is whether we know about it or not.

I prefer to shop locally when it’s an option. I like feeling as if my business genuinely matters.

  • I can’t believe I’m going to bat for Pfizer, but apparently I hate deliberate, selective ignorance even more than greed. Oh well.

Paxton said the claim was based on only two months of clinical trial data…

It was a GLOBAL HEALTH CRISIS, you fucking morons. Millions of people died. Have you already forgotten how serious and urgent the situation was? Speedy availability of a vaccine was more important than lengthy, time-consuming tests.

Ask your god-king Trump. He’s the one who threw bushels of money at pharmaceutical companies and ordered them to solve the problem quickly.

  • As soon as I saw the title, I was gonna say Maxis, too. I like how they called their games “software toys”.

  • The last paragraph of this article is right on. Don’t just tell people to buy EVs and then call it a day. Improve the infrastructure. Make buying an EV feel like less of an unsupported risk.

  • Dax looked absolutely fantastic in this episode.

  • Nobody should want to destroy the other vehicle in the event of a crash.

For normal people like you and me, no, but rich narcissistic assholes will definitely want that. Since nothing is ever their fault, the other person must have caused the crash, so they deserve to pay the price.

Frankly, I think that kind of hateful, aggressive, “fuck you I got mine” marketing is the best way to sell this monstrosity.

  • Interesting! Plus, that’s exactly the sort of weird, unanticipated thing I’m talking about. How do you plan for everything? You can’t.

The first human colonists (who are just ordinary people) won’t be the rich. They’ll be desperate people who are sold a dream of the future and treated as human lab rats.

  • Objective reality that conflicts with our biases and preconceived ideas. We are really, really bad at handling that in a healthy manner, and WAY too good at denial and self-delusion.
