    1. I make this mistake all the time. Thanks for catching it! Maybe one day I’ll remember.
    2. Huh. Good idea. I dunno, either.
  • Trump suggested that the Ukrainian president was responsible for starting the war. In reality, Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, initiating the current land war.

I’d like it if more summaries of what conservatives say/believe were followed by sentences which began with “In reality…”

  • The way you type is like any other form of self-expression. If others want to read into it or decide they don’t like it, that’s on them. Type however you like and don’t give it another thought.

  • Too much lettuce. I’d let it go to voicemail.

  • You know I’d have my phone out, ready to record that shit

  • Fediverse, I’m guessing? I don’t know for sure.

  • I’d sit back. Way, way back.

  • In the morning, yes. I generally wake up quickly, (not necessarily early, but once I’m up, I’m up) and can be pretty social.

Late at night, though, I’d politely ask you to shut up. I’d get less polite the more I had to say it. Sorry.

  • Throwing in the word “apparent” is cowardly, but it’s also a lot cheaper than being sued for libel by a fucking billionaire.

  • Whatever. If you want to pretend not to get it, that’s on you, bud.

  • No, they didn’t, which is why that’s not what I said.

    Here’s what OP said:

I am gay and while he has no issue with me or my partner he continues to align himself with people who do not believe in my right to exist.

  • The “benefit” is OPs mental health. That counts for quite a bit.

This isn’t merely a difference of opinion. OP is gay, and OPs father is knowingly supporting a group that hates gay people. No amount of kind words can ever overcome that.

… the world wouldn't become a better place if we all argued and then stopped talking to each other.

That’s entirely true. Unfortunately, MAGA supporters are far beyond more moderate Republicans. The father’s beliefs are so extreme that no compromise is possible.

  • If someone associates with a group that won’t accept my right to exist, I wouldn’t want them in my life either. I guess I’m a selfish bastard, too.

  • “We’re basically cops. We demand zero accountability, too!”

  • Being genuinely surprised by a joke that hits just right, and laughing so hard I tear up.

  • I remember making a myspace page because a girl I had a crush on had one.

  • To transphobes, ANY acceptance of trans folks is too much acceptance. So, they try and spread propaganda that’s awful and scary. Unfortunately, enough ignorant people will believe it. When dealing with the general public, you almost can’t have a reasonable discussion on the topic without pedophilia coming up. The subject is complex enough, and this further muddies the waters, which is what transphobes want. Even though it’s been debunked, there’s now an association in some people’s minds between transsexuals and pedophilia.

Eventually people will laugh at this idea, and look at it the way we look at tragic paranoia like the Salem witch trials. Sadly, that won’t happen soon enough to help the people whose rights are being violated right now.

  • I’m impressed that he actually researched the issue, and from non-extremist sources, too! This has got to be a difficult, frightening thing for any parent, so he’ll need as much patience and reassurance as possible. He sounds like he’s definitely worth it.
