Saying the law is wrong is the worst defense you can have in court.

Reading the article and I wonder what Internet Archive thought when they turned themselves into a Pirate Bay but for ebooks. They had this lawsuit coming and they have obviously no idea how to defend themselves in this case.

They should stick to archiving the web instead of shooting themselves in the foot.

Internet archive turned themselves into an ebook piracy site rather than a digital library. They distributed unlimited copies of books for free. And then Internet Archive defended it with something in the lines of:

It costs a lot of money to make, and distribute, digital copies of books without the permission of the copyright holder... therefore it should be legal for The Internet Archive to do it.

Most routers already have non-standard passwords by default. At least in EU. I’m not sure which devices besides routers and IoT peripherals are affected by this bill.

I guess people believe passwords that are awkward to type are somehow safer.

We’re losing that in Sweden though. Public healthcare is becoming more and more under funded. Doctors barely have time to treat patients, so they’re often sending patients home with prescribed paracetamol.

The only way to get proper healthcare nowadays is through private healthcare, if you can afford it. I know many who haven’t gotten proper healthcare until they sought private healthcare. It sucks, because it used to be great.

Hosting a streaming service is incredibly expensive. Especially at the scale of YouTube. I can imagine YouTube is costing far more for Google than Search itself.

My guess is that YouTube has never really been profitable, which is why they’re pushing users to buy Premium.

I believe it also is for creating hype among investors. “Look at this new amazing product lineup we got! Self driving cars! Invest in us before those huge things turn into reality!”

And to get on the more conspiratorial side, it might also be to dry up the market of talent. It’s hard for competitors to make a product if all talent is already doing cool stuff elsewhere.

Especially considering most fun innovations get scrapped either way.

That’s a valid point, but if cost of ink is a major concern then they really station themselves as the cheap rum brand.

Of all places, rum bottles ain’t the place for flat design. One reason why flat design is often used is that it does well small as big, especially on a computer monitor.

Captain Morgan is a character that takes up the entire rum bottle. There’s never an instance where the Captain Morgan character is going to be as small as a fingernail.

And for some reason this designer felt the need to make the colors mute.

At least they really nail the cheap rum feeling.

If you want to get away from competition, making foss is not the way to go. You’re making a product, and to make a living out of the product you must ensure people are willing to pay for it. And people won’t pay unless you have a competitive edge.

Shorting is when you borrow stocks and then immediately sell it. At some point you have to buy those stocks back so you can return the stocks to the lender.

Say you short 1 stock at $1000. The stock later drops to $100. You have made a good $900 profit when you return the stock.

Say the stock instead goes to $10,000. You have made a devastating $9000 loss. You have lost more than you initially shorted.

That XKCD is almost 18 years old and is still as relevant.

Always remember: when you invest in a stock, you can only lose what you’re putting in. When you short a stock, there’s no limit in how much you can lose. Yes, that means you can go in debt.

It’s funny how so many were confident FSD really was safer than human drivers 10 years ago. Some even said it’s irresponsible not to let these self driving cars drive on the street.
