  • Yeah it kinda sounds like it. The eier kind of sounds like hey, and koeken sounds a bit like Google.

I've had a few other accidental activations, that I couldn't explain that easily, even from podcasts, that I decided that I didn't need it. But in Android Auto I couldn't find to option to turn off the activation phrase, so instead I turned it off completely.

  • My Google speaker only hears me say “hey Google, set an alarm in x hours” and “stop”. Good luck profiling me.

And I turned off the Google assistant in my car. It was more a nuisance than a blessing. It would trigger if you said “eierkoeken” which was hilarious when we were talking about those things during a road trip.

  • Space is another thing to consider.

Oh wait that was mentioned already. But yeah in a 1 bedroom apartment, it’s not easy to do all this stuff yourself. I don’t have a spare closet to install my own beer brewery and smoking case and jerky dryer.

  • I've had similar experiences with Windows.

Recently the fingerprint reader on my work laptop (which is running Win11) just completely stopped working until after a reboot.
Putting my laptop to "sleep mode" didn't work either, it would constantly wake up within seconds of me putting it to sleep. Wifi stopped functioning for no discernable reason. (I still haven't found the reason)

  • it says a lot about the alt right wing of society... they demand empathy when they feel slighted, but don't feel an ounce of empathy towards others.

This is also the reason why the alt right wing only balks at problems when it directly affects them personally. If it doesn't affect them, it's not a problem, because other people's experiences don't matter/count/exist. And there's no need to learn from other people's mistakes.

  • That depends on your definition of "ready", and of "most people".

My mom, for instance, could pretty much do all her stuff on a Linux machine, and as soon as her current laptop with Win11 gets a tad too old and she starts complaining that everything is so slow, I'll switch her over to Linux.

All she does is edit her photos, read emails and does online banking and some web-only games (like boardgamearena). She needs an image editor (she still uses Picasa, so Shotwell could be a valid alternative), an email program (she already uses Thunderbird), text processor (she already uses LibreOffice).
