Yeah, it's all going to be regional. I'm a redneck, and, to some extent, queer. However, call me those things with the wrong tone and we have a problem.

Minority is nice because it's relatively short compared to groups-other-than-white and similar clunky terms.

"Minorities," is now sometimes used in an insulting way, but it's usualy obvious when someone is being a racist shithead.

At the end of the day it comes down to respect, intent, and tone. Basically, don't be a fuckhead and be polite, folks will tell you how they want be called.

Minority is probably the best term when you're talking about not-white.

In general, African American is seen as silly just like Latinx is. Caucasian American is used ironically as a mild insult: "That boy is such a Caucasian American that he keeps a loaf of whitebread in the glovebox."

Brown people is also useful shorthand but you have to be careful as it can be insulting without proper irony. "Those rich old white guys sure do love killing brown people for oil."

Re-read and climb off that high horse before you hurt yourself. I was also referring to the UNCF, Unitrd Negro College Fund. Goes hand in hand with the NAACP.

Both colored and Negro occur in these names as the organiztions are so old that those were the correct terms at the time.

Example not involving race:

Moron -> retard -> special as in special needs -> intellectually disabled

It's called the Euphemism Treadmill. Moron was a medical term defining the degeee of impairment lile a hundred years ago and is used as a pejorative to this day.

I dare you to call a group of black guys colored or Negro. Hell, get video if you can.

Keep in mind, Jim Crow is still in living memory and i grew up with the double water fountains everywhere.

Colored is Jim Crow and Negro is a racial category that goes back to phrenology. Negroid was still used in anthropology as recently as the 90s, still may be a technical term, IDK. But, unless you're talking about college funds or forensics, you have a good chance of getting your ass beat in the right crowd.

Unless you're old as dirt and polite.

It's a an old name that contains a deprecated and often insulting term for black folks: National Association for the Advancement of Colored people.

However, it's not quite a slur. If you're under the age of 70 and using it, you're almost certainly using it as a slur. Plenty of old black and white folk in the south still use it as it was the polite term when they were kids.

I like the "No Kings!" messaging, simple and pointed. We need a slogan that is short and sweet for the soldiers to use. Something that shows them they have agency in this.

The whole Tankie thing. Just like MAGAts but on the other side. They're authoritarian left with lots of Chinese and possibly Russian influence. Far left most of us support are on the opposite end of the authoritarian/individualistic axis from both Tankies and MAGAts.

I would also add that the training programs and apprenticeships that were developed have been gutted as they destroyed the unions.

The whole rebuilding American manufacturing through tariffs is a total pipe dream. I'm one of the few machinists that stuck through the great recession in my generation. There are no where near enough people like me to train kids and the guys that taught me are dead.

It takes minimum, four years, to grow a self-sufficent machinist on the job. Trade schools are pretty much worthless, kids come out of trade school and they're fit to sweep floors or maybe punch a button if they're real sharp.

It would take twenty years of consistent government and corporate support to rebuild and we all they are too greedy and short sighted for that.

I assume it is similar for a lot of other trades.

Time to program something nasty and tricky or tweaking in a tight part: put on the math metal and figure it out.

Yeah, I think both of mine were working at the time as well. They also are very rigid law and order types and at that time I hadn't begun serious rebellion.

I actually saw a teacher allow kids to play with mercury when I was in highschool in the 90s. Teacher was ancient and the town was so backwards that it is still known as a sundown town to this day.

That is completely reasonable and the person you're screaming at is Canadian. 16 year olds are perfectly capable of being responsible with long guns like a .22 rifle. This depends on the kid and the parents.

If you are a vegan and a pacifist on ethical grounds, I get it. But, hunting is a like a basic human thing. View the gun as a neat but dangerous tool that requires training.

We're talking about traditional patterns of rural gun use you even find all over Europe. These are not AR-15 killer sewing machines, they're old school long guns with most of them not even being semi-automatic.

It's possible, but there needs to be a thickness in addition to the length and width.
