  • Israel owns both the Republicans and Democrats. They probably have even more influence over the Republicans due to the evangelicals.

Genocide Joe is still a spineless bitch for not doing more, but Republicans would be worse.

  • I agree with you, and I do believe he is working behind the scenes to mitigate the Palestinian genocide.

Unfortunately, outside of Gaza is like saying, outside of the Holocaust. It's a huge issue.

If my vote counted, I'd vote for him, but I'm calling him genocide Joe for posterity.

  • Xiaomi is making it almost impossible to install ROMs on your phone. They also have had ads shown through their OS (I don't know how prevalent it is). I love my Xiaomi hardware with another OS, but won't buy any more since the software is so bad.

I'll probably look at Motorola next.

Google phones supposedly take good photos, but don't have an SD card or 3.5mm jack if those are important to you.

Sorry I don't have any better advice. I thought I saw a Xiaomi account posting on an Android community. You might ask them about ads on the OS and your ability to change the software if you don't like it.

Edit: sorry, it wasn't a Xiaomi account, but a community: https://lemdro.id/c/xiaomi

  • As I understand it, there are two measures of cosmic distance/expansion rate in which we are pretty confident.

One is using supernovas as a measure. Since one kind of supernova has very particular characteristics, it is easy to calculate the distance. It is like knowing that everyone has the same kind of candle, if you see a bunch of lights around you, you could make certain assumptions about how far they are from you by how bright they are. Also, with more precise measurements, we can use the doppler effect to know how fast they are moving. We have observed the area around or Galaxy and have come up with a very precise measurement for how fast the universe is expanding.

The other measurement is by looking at the cosmic wave background. This is the "first" thing we are able to see after the big bang. I don't really understand the details of this one, but scientists have also been able to calculate the expansion rate of the universe very accurately with this radiation.

As we have done more experiments to measure these two numbers, instead of converging on the same number, the results are actually diverging. Recent results have even made it so the error bars no longer overlap.

So, we have some big questions -

    1. Are our measurements wrong? There are no strong candidates for alternative understandings of how we measure things, so we don't really know how.
    2. Are the expansion rates at the beginning of the universe and current times different? Maybe, but again, we don't have any theories for why.
    3. Does the Universe expand at different rates in different places? Maybe, but again, we don't have any strong candidates that we can test.

All of this is called the Hubble Tension. It is probably one of the biggest questions in cosmology currently.

  • Sure, what would you like to bet?

But to be clear, I think it will be within established democratic processes. It won't be s coup or anything like that. For example, Schumer had called for elections. If they have the elections, it would be an attempt to remove Netanyahu.

  • You did have Schumer calling for elections in Israel. Biden invited the opposition party to discussions in America against the protestations of Netanyahu.

There are a lot of mixed messages with the continued arms shipments, but it seems obvious there is some movement in the Biden administration to find a more agreeable negotiation partner. I doubt they'll go outside of the established democratic processes, but again, I won't be surprised if there is some pressure for Netanyahu to step down.

  • I haven't read down the thread yet, just saw your comment. Maybe others have said something similar-

Just out of curiosity, why do you say it is a fable? It seems obvious that Netanyahu has fallen out of favor with the Biden administration and that Biden's administration is courting the opposition. See the recent visit by the Israeli opposition leader to the US.

"Overthrow" is probably too strong, but I guarantee the US State Department and intelligence agencies are working behind the scenes to weaken Netanyahu and strengthen the opposition. There will likely be an attempt to remove Netanyahu before the US elections in November. As it is, the genocide is a noose around Biden too. If he can stop the current situation, it will help him tremendously in November.
