  • Can you reiterate what you were trying to say then? To me, these quotes sound reductive but perhaps there's nuance I'm overlooking:

each politician acting in their personal self-interest

both of them have thoroughly demonstrated to be their only priority

This is political theater where they're playing with the lives of the people in question.

  • I'm not sure if NYT is trying to soothe our anxieties or make us complacent.

I think the level of access to the president and unscrupulous/amoral actors in the administration is unrivaled and will lead to unprecedented outcomes.

IMO it's like predicting in January 2020 that the US would be unscathed from Covid because we have had +100 years without an extreme pandemic.

  • More like the Overton Window at work actually.

Biden will likely end up as one of the top 5 most progressive presidents ever. Society expects more from Democrats than they would've previously. There's nothing wrong w/ that, but the argument being presented seems misguided and like both sides nihilism.

  • Is element on the main profile or are you waiting for notifications from secondary profiles? Also, might not be related, but my messaging notifications w/ GrapheneOS has gotten worse in the past week or so (Google Messaging hasn't always alerted to new messages until I open the app and it pulls them) so it might be a Graphene thing as well.

  • Not a huge fan of Biden's presidency, but it sounds like his commutations were based on whether society deemed them eligible for home release during covid. I'm assuming he didn't individually look at all 1,500 other commutations. Unless I'm reading it wrong, society deemed her low risk and she has been out of prison since 2021.

    Definitely sloppy tho.

  • If you are concerned about HDDs failing, I would try the nvme instead. For me, I have a 1tb external HDD connected to my server-laptop. It's definitely an eye-sore but my server is basically on the shelf out of the way and I SSH into the server 99% of the time unless it goes down.

The HDD is not blazingly fast by any means, but I stream jellyfin videos which is great. There is maybe a 1-2 second pause before a movie starts, but there are no noticeable buffering after, even @ 1.75 speed

  • If you have a spare laptop/phone, I'd find a good tutorial and start there and then venture towards new hardware as your needs require it. Personally, I bought a (used) laptop when my main laptop wouldn't boot, but then I wiped my malfunctioning laptop and it started working again. I've been using the used laptop as a server ever since.

Personally, I have yet to find something that I couldn't self-host on the laptop and still don't quite grasp why I'd need a heavier-powered device.
