  • Like yeah I don't, but didn't he curse a fig tree for not having fruit, while it wasn't fig season?

Didn't he get himself executed for like being offended that people were doing business at the temple?

How is that not taking shit personally and arguing with strangers?

You don't think he'd be like coming in hot on a comment chain?

  • Huge assumption there lol, but I guess I see your point.

It's not an assumption, it's a conclusion based on the premises laid out in the previous sentences.

Everything seems to point towards that being the case for us, and absolutely nothing hints at a simulation

Maximum speed, minimum length, light is only a particle when we're looking at it....

Like there are other things that definitely point away from it being a simulation (eg gravity waves). But there's not nothing pointing towards simulation.

  • There is a ceiling though. A computer made of matter of one universe cannot simulate an entire universe at the same speed.

Right but we don't know what the real universe's limitations are, and I'm geostationary to speak too authoritatively of the capabilities of an arbitrarily advanced civilization.

I don't think simulation theory is true. Eg calculating gravitational forces between everything in the universe would presumably be extraordinarily cost intensive, but essentially irrelevant (I mean like gravitational waves, not the moon).

  • Mozart wasn't wealthy, his customers (patrons) were. His father trained him in the family trade from birth and put him to work at a young age.

He had a lot in common with Michael Jackson in that way, but Michael got insanely rich and Mozart didn't.

  • I'm not the one you were replying to and haven't read the comments you referenced but couldn't let this stand unchallenged:

It's not censorship when they're removing posts by both sides.

Yes it is censorship, it could be censorship with reduced bias, it might even be appropriate censorship. But it is literally censorship to censor speech.

  • I think it's more likely that SCOTUS will wind up ruling that Trump is indeed disqualified under the 14th amendment so they can finally get him out of the way of the more serious candidates that will do what they want.

And also protect their majority in the court by appearing unbiased.

  • Why can't it be that we simply live in a real universe? That's the simplest answer, the one that requires the fewest assumptions.

The argument goes that: a sufficiently technologically advanced society would run ancestor simulations. Those simulations may also run simulations. There's no ceiling on the number of nesting simulations. It's the height of conceit to think we're the top level when there are squillions of simulated universe.

  • I live in Vancouver and have a child in the public school system (the other is still too young)

I'm worried that administrators and teachers may be (consciously or unconsciously) adjusting curriculum to please vocal but overrepresented minorities, and identity politicians.

I'm not too worried about my kids, because I know what I'm teaching them about sex, gender, pronouns, and right/wrong.

I'm more worried about the kids of other parents. Like teens that worry if they'll have to find a new place to live if their parents see their browser history, or catch them wearing the wrong clothes. Kids that have to literally live in fear. Kids that kill themselves instead of continuing in unbearable circumstances. Those kids deserve to thrive, and I don't see how that can happen without robust SOGI curriculum. I'm worried about compromises to appease bigots.

Schools can't remove prejudice from parents but they can create a space where kids feel safe to talk about what they're going through. A policy that automatically tattles on kids makes that impossible. A policy that automatically tattles on kids, will result in dead kids.

If you're the sort of parent that's worried about their kids gender/sex transitioning without keeping you informed, that says a lot about you. That's a 'you' problem, not a school problem.

  • The most recent phone I purchased does not a 3.5mm jack. It wasn't really a decision I realized I was making, as the phone's previous iteration had had it in an era when that wasn't a given.

There have been a few times that I've missed it, not many, certainly fewer than 10 never a huge deal. But that's infinitely more times than I've thought:

I'm so glad my phone doesn't have a headphone jack.

Next phone will definitely have one because honestly

    yeah I might use that

Is enough justification to spend $0.25 (if that) for them to integrate a jack. What stupid cost cutting.

  • Hey guys I want everyone in Canada to have dental care without cost of use, but I'm anxious about the sustainability of a program that pays for dental care through paystub deductions while extending coverage to retirees.

I think the Healthcare funding model in this country is already ill-equipped to handle the boomers retiring (thanks boomers) without us giving them dental care they haven't paid for.

It needs to be funded through capital gains taxes.

  • I think it's probably better to harness immigration instead of limiting it. I'm not sure what the status is now but certainly in the past there have been special immigration categories for investor immigrants.

What if we re oriented those programs towards home building instead of economic stimulation. Like you can immigrate if you build an X unit co-op.

I agree we need to modify tax policies to make real estate more of a purchase and less of an investment

  • I personally like the cybertruck aesthetically

I can understand liking the idea of the cyber truck but its aesthetic is so different from convention that I think people need to see it in person to decide if they like it.

There are so many things in it that are different in ways that might be better it is hard for me to imagine it selling well.
