The bulk of us don't take crazy pills, we're just gerrymandered to high hell (I mean read the signs, we literally say it on our freeways...). All it really takes to see that is that whenever something goes to the polls that isn't tied to districts we tend to lean more towards personal freedom.

Anyone else notice how the "why do you want to kill babies" crowd has fallen mostly silent on these posts? It's almost like they never had any real horse in this race, and now that most of them aren't being paid to stir people up they've got nothing to say.

If you wanted fdroid to update apps automatically you'd need to have some system level service running like Google Play services. This is course could be achieved with a custom rom or using root. (This is how huwai and other devices that don't get the play store, as well as Samsung handle their own stores) [untrue as of Android 12, see below comment]

That said I view automatic updates as an anti feature most of the time. I should be asked if I want updates. You can of course turn off auto updates in the play store too though so that's more of a side note.

Because they sell the bulk of their products at a loss. They use their webservices platform to bankroll their retail platform so they can undersell even Walmart. It is using a system color picker. That's the gtk color picker. You'd need to configure xdg-portal to utilize a different picker I'm pretty sure.

Yeah, a lot of the in the Americas it's not the fact that we'd rather be in a car it's that our public transit options are just so non-competitive with driving by design that it makes no sense to ever use them from a time perspective if you can afford not to.

If you live somewhere like the Bay area where you've got the BART or Chicago with the L, you can 100% use public transit as your daily driver because it's actually faster then driving in most cases and you can read or do work while doing so... sadly this is not the case in most places. So, the primary reason that happens, and the primary reason I'd vote defederation on them every time, is because their instance has down votes disabled for some forsaken reason. It's not 100% the users fault, it's because a comment is the only mode of response they have available for something they don't agree with. So a negative image macro is their downvote. Due to this, they end up flooding other instances threads and only see a bunch of people who agree with the op of a thread or a post, which of course makes them feel like they need to show their displeasure way what's been posted. Meanwhile we can see the 500 to 9.2k ratio on the racist hot take.

The way our instances are run is just fundamentally incompatible.

I don't think you're monolithic at all honestly. The the fact is, hexbear isn't a hivemind, is a lot of different people. There's just a very vocal minority that makes your instance look bad.

Just use something like souping up. It has negative connotations around people of Asian descent, what they eat and what kind of car they supposedly prefer to drive. We don't see people going around saying I'm n-ing my computer. Being conscious of the actual meaning of words you're using for things just helps keep the conversation on track and helps keep conversations on topic. Even if that word is ultimately used for something that the general consensus is, a good thing.

Aye. If I want to see their content I can read it on a hexbear amount. They just flood my feed with memes and only barely tangentially related comments that are trying to bait people into saying something that they think gives them the high ground. They're like the arch Linux users of identity politics.
