  • Actually I don't disagree with your premise. I definitely think US studios have either sat on their laurels or have had troubled development.

The pivot changed art style, scope and even lore and vibe of the game as per Carrie Patel. The lore exists for the world but living lands from what I nice l know were never fully detailed.

Regardless, the game's developement definitely went through trouble despite Microsoft's funding.

I was just mentioning that while it took 7 years since conception but the single player version is rather new. And pointing that out isn't some save, just an acknowledgement that the game did go through some crisis in development.

  • Sounds good. I really like changes that just flow from start to end, though they're rare. It's easy to forget about collectibles if they're too annoying, so that's that.

That sounds great! I'll be playing it on Series X, should be okay.

  • As per interviews Awoved pivoted in 2021 from dark multiplayer to what it is now. What that tells us is that it could've been something like Suicide Squad/Gotham Knights/Veilguard, but they successfully pivoted in the end.

  • Their other studios on the other hand, oofh.

    • Rare: Ever wild (sea of thieves helps tho)
    • Undead: State of Decay 3 (almost half a decade since announcement)
    • Initiative: Perfect Dark (vertical slice looked good, but maybe that's all they've made so far)
    • Turn10: Forza Motorsport (reboot didn't do anything it seems)
    • 343/Halo studios: ...
  • I hope MSFT sees it like Laura does. However it does look like they've been kind and patient with Obsidian so far (pentiment, grounded, Avowed pivots from dark live service to rainbow RPG, and sequel to Outer Worlds, an ok release). They're definitely happy with regularly shipped games of diverse genres and audiences for GamePass. In a way, a perfect studio for a subscription service.

  • Just finished Mafia 1 DE and 2 DE. Taking a breather before I dive in 3, which I suppose will require a lot of patience.

I really enjoyed 1 and 2. They're anti GTA in some senses where there's basically little to no fluff or sandbox, just pure story telling and some gameplay on the side. But the stories are definitely so well written. The DLCs of 2 showed signs of GTAfication, and the first 30 mins of 3 also reek of it, but I feel the first two definitely feel timeless only because of their writing.

  • About to finish Alan Wake 2 and its DLCs. It's a great game but for me it's bit too artsy fartsy. The flow breaks each time you switch the character, which in turn affects the pacing. Having said that the concept is cool, the fmvs integrated into the game are really high quality, they act as emmisive light sources, causing surroundings to reflect it. Pretty cool.
