  • Something like this would be cool for ublock origin too, with a sound pinging whenever an ad is blocked; could be fun.

  • A foyer, essentially, but a lot smaller and almost strictly utilitarian. You take off and store your shoes, boots, jackets, etc there.

  • This looks interesting, but I don't understand what it's for. I read through the readme, but came out none the wiser. What exactly is a compose sequence?

  • There are other instances for both piped and invidious aside from the ones linked above. I believe the intended usage involves you finding the instance closest to you in terms of network, which may not be those specific instances linked above.

  • Capitalism removed!

    I wish capitalism was removed.

  • Mouse gestures, synchronising my settings across 2 PCs and an android phone, shortcuts to different searchers etc. Plus it would need to be visually customisable

It sounds like perhaps you haven't looked into Firefox for a while, because out of the box it does all of the things you listed, except for gestures. There are multiple popular plugins that provide Firefox gestures easily. I'm not sure what visual customizations you're referring to, but Firefox also has had support for themes for ages now.

  • Every time I try KDE again, it feels so cluttered and all over the place with extra buttons everywhere and things scattered all about. So I go through pages and pages of customizations and settings to tame it into something that isn't hideously distracting, and... I realize that I've made it look pretty much like Gnome would with a couple of extensions and way less effort, so I go back to Gnome. 🤷

  • his idea was to reduce visibility of harmful content

He's got a funny way of accomplishing that goal. So funny that it looks like his goal is exactly the opposite. GENIUS!

  • Alternatively, you could pay money for a solution from a reputable company with support.

and run the possibly even greater risk that it'll fuck something up, since you probably can't even look at their source

  • I usually interpret the phrase "drop in" to mean that the replacement being referenced will also work with everything written for the original. Does "drop in" in this case mean that Immich will transparently replace Google Photos, similar to how libretube replaces YouTube? That would be amazing!

  • traffic cameras in fucking Cornwall, this is where we really really need to draw the line and talk about systemic discrimination.

The world is larger than just Cornwall. Your bad faith reductionist arguments are idiotic.

You acknowledge that systemic discrimination exists, but you want to paint borders around where it's appropriate to talk about it. Why? Systemic discrimination is always worth examining. Yes, even in Cornwall, but also everywhere else.

there’s an extremely simple solution for not being „filtered into the justice system“: stop driving too fast

Nice how you conveniently ignore the other points made in this thread about how speed cameras actually are used. They don't call these approaches "speed traps" for nothing, there is intentional entrapment built into the system.

  • I'm unsure what I'm going to do when my steam controller breaks. No other controller even comes close, including the Xbox controller that I consistently see recommended. The gyro especially is so fucking nice, and AFAIK nothing else has one that works the same way.

I can't believe people shit on the controller when it was released, they had no clue.

  • The camera is not what's discriminating (in theory), it's the justice system that they have to deal with after the camera triggers on them.

To expand on what the above commenter said, the cameras are also discriminating because of the simple statistics of class dynamics. There are more poor people than rich ones being filtered into the justice system by cameras. Cameras also could be installed disproportionately in minority or poor neighborhoods, for example. Pretending that there aren't other discriminatory dynamics at play and acting like it's as simple as "tEchNoLoGY iS nEutRaL!" is ignorant.

  • The sentence just prior.

  • Yeah what possible relevancy to getting from one place to another could the weather have?

  • I used to feel that way too, but after trying games on Linux again recently (got a steam deck) I have yet to find a single game that doesn't work on Linux at this point. I'm not even exaggerating, literally every game I've tried works without issue, even if it's "Windows only".

  • I don't see how that's hilarious, unless you're an asshole. (Which, looking at your other comments, you seem to be.)

Also, there have been multiple incidents of supply shortages for the prescription medications that ADHD people tend to need. Being without their required medications can cause some people to make bad decisions, or to self medicate in other ways. None of that is their fault, and it's not fucking "hilarious" in any way.

  • Your description of "being forced to do something" sounds like a distinct situation from a special interest. Special interests are driven by the individual themselves, not forced upon them. I wonder if what you're thinking of might be the phenomenon called PDA ("pathological demand avoidance", or more recently rephrased - more accurately IMO - as "persistent demand for autonomy").

  • One possible interpretation is that autistic individuals can sometimes tend to go a bit overboard when finding a new hobby. We will sometimes find a new topic so engaging that we develop a "special interest" in it and spend days/weeks delving into every possible piece of information and niche knowledge available about that topic, considering all the implications and what-ifs and following all the informational leads.

Spending merely the minimum time required (which in this example is apparently 5 days) to get proficient is harder to estimate because an autist may instead need to spend weeks learning everything. Or, they might not.
