People underestimate just how massive California is. There are a lot of people across a large span of land that require electricity. I imagine the map would look very different if it was scaled by population.

I'm not sure how it works in Europe, but power grids being privatized is a big issue in USA. It's essentially a monopoly where one company owns and operates the grids in one or a few states. There's no incentive to maintain the grid because there's no competition and they receive government funding whenever a crisis like this occurs. It's cheaper to just eat the fines than it is to buy electricity from neighboring states.

Compared to today's Republicans, I'd argue Mitt Romney was relatively sane, though he's still quite problematic.

Calling them "dupes" is the lingo used in fashion and makeup, idk about elsewhere. I think the distinction is that a dupe is a knockoff instead of a counterfeit.

As much as you wish (and I do too), it's impossible to avoid politics, especially when something significant happens. It's heavily entwined in every single person's existence.

While I agree that can absolutely explain Trump's behavior, it's the Secret Service's job NOT to short circuit in a panic situation. They're trained to specifically handle moments exactly like this.

Something I frequently see missing from discussions on Project 2025 is the criminalization of trans people, very clearly calling for their murder. It labels trans people as pornography, pornography as child abuse, and calls for the death penalty for child abusers.
