So does the person who made your coffee this morning not deserve a place to live? What about the person who delivered your dinner? The person who delivers your mail? The one who picks up your trash? The people who built your house? The person who stocks your groceries?
wHaT dO yOu Do FoR a LiViNg?
What does that have to do with your right to a roof over your head?
Landlords aren't bad because they treat their tenants poorly, they're bad because they make a living by monetizing a basic human necessity. It's like saying there are no good billionaires, or all cops are bastards. Of course there are landlords who treat their tenants well, billionaires who donate a lot of money, cops who actually want to serve and protect, but saying they're all bad is really saying they are perpetuating a broken system. Landlords are bad because you shouldn't have to pay a monthly bill to have somewhere to sleep. Billionaires are bad because you can't make that much money without exploiting the working class. Cops are bad because their complicit in abusing power.
Something I saw Ada mention, that I personally appreciate, is that we were cutting hexbear more slack than they probably deserved because they're another trans friendly instance. If a few bad actors can get you to defederate, that's a very quick way to isolate trans people from the rest of the fediverse. I agree that hexbear should be defederated, but I really think Ada's plan of giving things time to cool down before putting it up to a community vote was the best way of handling it.
Honestly, where I've seen the flooding of politics is outside of their own communities. Their instance is already an echo chamber, so there's no need to spread propaganda. But as soon as they venture to other instances, they need to make sure everyone knows how they feel, and if you disagree or just don't want to talk about it, they instantly turn to personal attacks
This exactly! In posts about defederating, they're commenting like war documents and saying that if you live in the US you're in support of them commiting genocide. And the amount of comments I've seen with nearly identical wording about how Cuba is the most LGBTQ+ friendly country in the world.
Like ok, yeah, the US is a horrible country that's committed war crimes, and maybe Cuba is LGBTQ+ friendly, I don't really know, but that has absolutely nothing to do with defederating from an internet forum. They have a very holier than thou vibe.
Is this supposed to be some kinda gotcha? You think everyone being able to purchase a home is some kinda outlandish impossible feat?
