  • It isn't even necessarily "leftist" content, it's just access to the lives of other gen Z in other parts of the world without boomer media spin.

I'm only on a nonpolitical part of tiktok but you still see stuff like people's cats in Gaza if you follow cat videos, and so on.

  • What’s the relevance?

If a company signs a public pledge and then breaks it, that's worth knowing about.

  • Exactly.

One day it will involve fediverse. So enjoy it here for here now, where the only spam we face is the black market prescription drugs spammers on kbin, and people pushing their own news blogs.

  • Yes every country's struggles are specific, it was just a general trend.

I can't get my head around Switzerland. Women only got full suffrage there in 1971. It was 1893 where I live. You do have to be separated for 2 years to get a divorce here, too, though, which I think is stupid.

  • @spiderwort could you give me some concrete examples. I can see it with a few things but not others. How does science determine:

    • abortion laws
    • your nation's stance on Israel
    • marriage's effect on taxes
    • individual custody disputes
    • animal cruelty laws
  • forcing “modesty” on women.

I see what you're saying. A feminist from one of these countries explained to me once using the metaphor that it's all very well for western feminists to fight for the right to show their breasts but we need to respect that a lot of non-western feminists are still fighting for the right to choose not to show them.

In the west, feminists are interested in the right to sexual expression and agency so that's the lense we view this stuff through.

But at a grassroots level women in LICs focus on things like rape law reform, consent age reform, freedom from spousal abuse, mechanisms to protect domestic workers, FGM etc. So it's not realistic to expect everyone to be on the same page when conditions are so different.

  • They're denouncing Netanyahu and his government for not getting the hostages back.

Not the same as denouncing the genocide.

  • War crimes.

I hope someone there can document this to a reasonable standard. I know Israel is trying to stop forensic pathologists getting in there.

Like with the other mass graves, there will most likely be evidence of execution-style shootings on victims who should be protected under international law, like hospital patients, eldery, and children.

Even if it takes another 30 years the genocidaires should be brought to justice.

  • Most settlers are invaders though.

  • Okay that looks like a rock with a striation in it. They form in nature when a pebble is formed from a piece of rock that had several layers in it.

HERE are some more colourful ones.

Sometimes one of the layers is softer and crunbles leaving a "carved out" look.

You're probably just noticing it for the first time. Maybe it used to be up the other way and was disturbed by an animal or bird.

  • For some reason

    This is the reason:

"You know what I've noticed? Nobody panics when things go "according to plan." Even if the plan is horrifying!

  • If it had happened like in the 1980s or something it would have been forgiveable but it was like 2006, at that point we all already knew climate change was real.

  • I never really forgave them for the original ManBearPig climat change denialism.

  • Yeah I was confused going straight from that report to this news.

  • I wasn't going to say anything but since you're already leaving: you might be happier with a more strict/prescriptive worldnews community. The one on lemmy.world has a lot more rules, though, the readership is less leftwing.

The ones on Beehaw and Kbin aren't, but they're small/slow moving so mostly cover mainstream Western news cycle stories.

Or, you could start your own! I have a tiny one that's my pride and joy, it's quite fun. If you do that, @ me so I can add yours to my world news Collection (kbin collections are like a shareable multireddit).
