This is really dumb of me but I just realized someone tried to describe this battery facility to me and I somehow thought they were talking about this fish farm.
Could be... seems to hate macrons. Out of curiousity I don't suppose you know what software they use? The only editing software I'm familiar with is nondestructive.
Side note, what's with the eccentric use of "[sic]" in that article? All bar one are misuses of it. I wonder what the person who put it there thinks it means.
I somehow had no idea that was what they were doing there. Interesting! Climate change plus neglected infrastructure is going to = more power outages for sure.
It will, especially since a lot of the proposed fast-track mines seem to be in high-value tourism areas such as the Coromandel (there's a proposed mine right near Cathedral Cove FFS).
For a nation to go along with this feels like self harm. Mining revenue is way more likely to all wind up offshore. Also tourism is theoretically infinite if it's managed properly whereas mining is finite.
Another factor is some of these proposed mines treat infrastructure load as an externality so there are a bunch of hidden costs to ratepayers/taxpayers.

Those are the exact reasons I had to stick with windows. Office was essential at work (much as I like Libre Office it just doesn't quite cut it when you need perfect compatibility) and I used to use photoshop a lot (and Dreamweaver ha ha ha those were the days).
GIMP latest release seems to finally have non destructive editing so I will have to take another look.
I don't feel like anyone really represents my views anymore.

For question 3, sorry to do this but it makes me uncomfortable to come up with an equivalent to the Circus had beautiful architecture or the trains run on time.
I'd rather contribute something I see as positive and also meaningful, so in terms of NZ politics that's things like the small grassroots groups that are still fighting to save the environment, the degree of unity and political revitalization in te ao Maori resistance around treaty issues, the way the care workers I know are keeping their dignity and still fighting for decent working conditions... I guess just that ordinary people are not just sitting there defeated.
They have legitimate complaints but as is often the case are easily led to blaming the folks suffering even worse than they for their problems rather than the dominant agenda’s since the 80s that are the real problem.

I think my last computer was the last "toaster" I will get to own until I change platform. Updates were optional and manual, and I owned everything on it outright. I managed to jump through hoops just now to buy a copy of office that isn't subscription-based or infested with AI, but I feel like a dinosaur watching the asteroids falling.
I think we will see sharper bifurcation between the European market and the US/world market, as well.
There are some really crazy overreaches. I notice Adobe is setting its AI to rummage through subscribers' image folders (which is a legal and privacy nightmare for the companies concerned) and sysadmins are complaining about how they have to contact Adobe and go through a lengthy process to make it turn that off.
I'm up north but also hang out in the waikato. When I was a kid there were a lot more butterfies in general. The little Austrslian blues used to go around in big flocks where I grew up.

I don't understand how ads are now showing up in things people have paid for, like software or cars.
I can't say I've been a fan exactly since vista, but this just seems egregious. Was installing fonts today only to get a notice that the legacy font panel is going to be retired. It's like if libraries suddenly made you read everything in Bog Pront - weird and slow. I know it's on me for not leaving though.

I am middle aged so my parents' generation are all late Silent Gen or Boomers. None of our parents and their friends are right-wing at all - some of them are still out there trying to save the forests and the oceans.
The people I know irl who voted for National or ACT are all younger - working age.
Edited to add: Anecdotes aside, pretty sure statistically we are seeing a resurgence of ACT that is driven by affluent young men, while there is also a contingent of disenfranchised working-class people who vote for Winston.
