I have never heard of Harry Jowsey, but if this write-up about him is accurate, it sounds like the author found nine celebrities making transphobic comments and then just added this random homophobe so that the headline could say 10? Am I missing something?
I had a funny experience of this recently. I was looking for conservation and found what I thought was an empty "Conservative" community over on kbin so I started posting conservation articles there.
Turns out it did have one poster but they are banned by Beehaw so I only saw them when I was logged out. Anyway he was annoyed and told me Conservative is a political term meaning conserving traditions.
So I started posting articles about conserving traditions, especially about how conserving the traditions of Indigenous people is good for the environment. But he still complained.
They ended up polling the !conservative@kbin.social community to see what it should be about, majority voted for environmental conservation anyway.
But, I know we get far less money than in many other places. It wasn't even enough to cover rent so I had to use savings.
Now I'm on disability and it's less than half what people get on minimum wage. I know from my support group that disability is harder to get in the US but it's also pays a lot more money.
That article kind of presents an idyllic/outdated view of the Himba people. Modern life affects them as well and a lot of young people don't want to live like that.
Back in the mid 90s there was this band Radiohead that only had one album and I totally loved their music. I went to see them play live and there must have been less than 50 people there, it was really fun.
Later they changed their style and became really popular, but they and all their fans seem to hate that first album and it's the only one I really like.
Thanks for your advice, but unfortunately none of it applies to me.
I live in a country with a housing shortage and low housing affordability (40k would not even get you an insulated caravan here) and as a seriously chronically ill person unable to earn a living, my income is just under 50% of what my income would be if I were on minimum wage.
As a general rule All will show them unless you block them. I block all the big politics communities.
Subscribed shouldn't show them though. As far as I can tell the only times they will turn up in subscribed anyway is if someone you follow favourites them or comments on them.
You may be right about the CCP's motivations, but there's more to it.
Nuclear safety is an issue of much public anxiety in China and there have been public protests about things like nuclear power plant sites.
There also seems to be a fair amount of misinformation about nuclear stuff - not least because people sometimes don't trust government spokespeople and govt sanctioned "experts". Rumours about Fukushima have been part of that.
Their government may well be capitalizing on it for the reasons you suggest, but a fear of Fukushima fish totally does track with the Chinese public.
Definitely had no exposure, just saw people who federate with both us and .world talking about it. I'm being cautious in case it happens to another instance, though.
