  • Thanks for this, it made me go back and read through a second time. Just to explain my confusion, the article states that the price went up from $9.99 to $13.99 earlier this year, however, users that were subscribed through Google Play Music or YouTube Red were able to keep getting the old price for a little while longer. Then the article mentions "$9.99 – or even $7.99 – grandfathered users will now pay $13.99/month for YouTube Premium starting in January."

Somehow, my brain interpreted this all to mean that there was a $7.99 to $9.99 increase in July. I think maybe I was thinking that because it's odd to have an article about an old price increase. But really, the article is about the end of the grandfather period for Play Music and YouTube Red subscribers. All other users already had the price increase.

  • This is disappointing. I was thinking of subscribing since I heard content creators got paid more per premium view, and $10 didn't seem like a bad price. But if this is the second price hike in a single year, that definitely gives me pause.

This is not the second price increase in a year. This was a misunderstanding on my part. I'm still uncertain on the $14 price point.

  • Or just sit and relax. I feel like people have lost this during my lifetime. Ive never lost the ability to just take a deep breath, lean back, and enjoy some quiet. I mean, if I was WANTING to watch a movie or something, there would be disappointment, but if the reason I can't is beyond my control, it's a waste of time to dwell on it and be upset. Right?

  • Me, who works for an ISP repair department having to explain to a panicking customer, in a nice way, that they are not special because they work from home and the technician that isn't available until tomorrow is what they're going to have to deal with until such a time as technicians drive fucking ambulances and their shitty job that will apparently fire them at the drop of a hat has no tolerance for technical issues pulls the stick out of their ass. Or maybe demand the boss pay for a dedicated business line for working from home if they are so worried about it.

I theorize a good percentage of the truly panicked "I WORK FROM HOME, I WILL LOSE MY JOB" people regularly unplug their modems when they want an extra break and now that it's actually broken, they're at the limit of what the boss will put up with.

  • Prohibition doesn't work, but I would like to see limits placed on where they can be sold, just like we have in many places with legalized cannabis. Make them only able to be sold in a dispensary. Make it so they can't be sold within a certain distance from schools. Continue to tax the shit out of them. The only nicotine products that should be sellable outside of tobacco dispensaries should be products aimed specifically at cessation such as nicotine gum and nicotine patches.

Vapes should also be similarly regulated, and I say this as a person who vapes. I go to a vape shop for my juice and supplies. I vape a refillable mod, not a disposable pod thing, which are sadly so popular nowadays. I am aiming to cease vaping soon. (Last time I quit nicotine, I was clean for 7 years, but when Roe v Wade was overturned, that night I bought a pack of cigarettes, a bottle of vodka, and went on a bender while wallowing in despair. Not a good time and well, nicotine is hard to kick after even just a few smokes, especially for someone who previously had the habit.)

Anyway. There are controls that would have a positive impact without being full-on prohibition.

  • Do not despair. Vita is one of the greatest home brew consoles ever. I love my hacked vita.

  • Not gonna lie, with the current state of things, of I were rich I would probably go into hiding and make it so me and my family interact as little as possible with this current hellhole we call modern society. I'd like to think I would do something positive with my wealth, but I think I'd probably selfishly hide away until I die. I have no children, so maybe I would direct the wealth to do good once I'm gone, but that's it.

Of course, that's all theoretical. I'm not likely to ever be able to even retire comfortably.

  • Hope for medical advancement, mostly. However, there is positivity and purpose in knowing. I now know that I have one of two markers and my risk is elevated compared to the average person. Working to keep my mind sharp and healthy should be a higher priority for me now. We are learning more about this stuff as the time. Knowing is always better than ignorance.

  • After my gma and gpa had Alzheimer's, we (mom, me, brother) did it to see if we had the genetic markers for increased risk for the disease.

Bonus: we also found out we have a half sister on Dad's side that we did not know about that was born the year after Mom and dad divorced, and Dad also didn't know about her,. or so he says. So that was informative.

  • Many of the most celebrated seiyuu do nothing but voice acting.

Absolutely not true. There may be some, but seiyuu work is extremely hard. They work their asses off in a cutthroat competitive world doing many things on the side and making money from many more angles that just their voice acting.

  • American voice actors definitely get treated like stars and have fans. Source: Ive been to plenty of conventions. Also, another reason Japanese seiyuu are treated with such high praise is because many of them do other media, particularly music.

But seriously, American voice actors have fan groups. Anime and American animation voice actors, and video games actors. There's a lot of overlap there. There are very passionate fandoms.
