  • My first and middle name are the first and last name of a very famous comedian/actor/writer. I was born in 79 during the height of his wild crazyness but my dad swears up and down that it had nothing to do with the choice of names. I'm just very happy this particular comedian is still a beloved and respected figure with no major scandals or skeletons.

  • funding beauty pageants for tots dressed entirely in ammunition

Modern conservatives are the motivation for b-plots on Always Sunny. There's gonna be a Franks Little Beauties 2, and they'll obviously be dressed in ammo.

  • Brooklyn is right by Parma. Parma is known by locals as having a high concentration of, as you put it, "right leaning poors". We just call them racists. But they're mostly boomers who are dieing out.

That whole area of Cleveland suburbs is pretty interesting. It's a lot of diverse blue collar neighborhoods surrounded by more affluent areas. I'm honestly surprised by this story, as the youth of the area tend to be pretty progressive.

  • Wealth being transferred is meaningless when it's amongst the wealthy, and more food is also being wasted than ever before.

We're at a point in human civilization where we should be able to provide more for EVERYONE while expecting them to work less, yet here I am one catastrophic car accident or unexpected massive medical bill away from telling my kids we're homeless. But the very fact that, for now, I have a mortgage and my kids are getting a decent education and three square meals a day means I'm still way ahead of a shitload of people in my country, and I'm filthy fucking rich compared to people elsewhere in the world.

My wife and I work hard for our family, but I know for a fact that others work WAY harder. Since their labor is considered less valuable than mine they make WAY less than we do. The dumbest thing is that if society does implode, the guys working manual labor for peanuts will be more capable and provide more value than me, an asshole who sits on his ass all day fucking with Excel.

    Our society is fucked.

  • My movies? What?

I'm not upset about anything. I'm simply pointing out that the assertion that all movies today are dogshit shows you are either ignorant to all the quality movies being produced and the history of cinema in general, or your expectations are ludicrously high. In either case, you're contribution to the discussion is worthless. Or, to put it in your terms: your words are dogshit.

There have always been shitty movies. That's not to say that there have ONLY been shitty movies.

There are good movies being produced, and with the entirety of human culture at your fingertips, if all you are seeing is dogshit that's entirely your fault.

  • Speak what you type out loud. If it sounds like you should be rolling your eyes as you say it... or if it sounds exceedingly sarcastic as you say it, chances are you're going to come off as condescending intended or not. You provided a good link, don't ruin it with unintentional attitude.

  • I was living in my one bedroom hovel, chainsmoking like a fiend. I didn't leave the apartment for days. When I finally stepped out one day to go to the video store, I realized that I smelled like a dirty ashtray. I returned from the video store and lit another cigarette and it tasted like I smelled.

I quit pretty much cold turkey after that.

    That was 2001.

  • Please re-read my statement. I didn't say you are against trans people. I simply said that these are discussions best left to a person and their physician. As a cis man, I should have as much say in the matter as I do on abortion or breast reduction or hysterectomy, which is none until it directly involves me or my immediate family.

  • Those are rational concerns. They really are. And these are all concerns that a physician could address when talking to their patients who might be starting to question their gender. And that's how it should stay.

All that to say that unless you are a trained physician, or are an adult experiencing gender dysphoria, or are the parent of a child experiencing it, it's none of your business. Trans people exist. Let them exist peacefully.

  • charging small amounts from every user instead of having an ad-funded business is probably the most honest and fair way to have a healthy internet

I agree, but wouldn't you think it's far more likely that they would charge small amounts from every user AND have an ad-funded business?
