  • Considering, its the 2nd largest seller in Japan. It should do something ASAP unless they want to give away their position. Sony and others could always use a boost of sales if they capitalize on this opportunity correctly.

  • I use the app daily and never encounter this issue. That pop-up gave you the option to prompt never which I did.

  • The usage of LTPO will mean more efficient battery usage. Props for being fair. Although could have a higher ram model for future proofing.

  • Galaxy A16 is a budget phone which will get 6yrs of updates. Nothing phone 3a, CMF phone 2 pro both will get 3+6yrs of OS and security updates.

There are options if you check well.

  • Android 9 released on 6th August 2018. Which is 7yrs old. It sucks but that's how it goes with software. Current breed of smartphones receive anywhere from 4-7yrs of OS updates.

So, unless you use very outdated hardware you should be fine. My own Redmi 7a which received 1 OS update from 2019 is running android 10 which is just above the OS threshold for chrome.

  • You can sync them to desktop firefox and export from there. Or sync them via firefox sync to Fennec version of firefox from fdroid.

But, yeah firefox should do so much more for android users.

  • Currently, I see 3 IPTV apps on fdroid. IPTV Player, FastoTVLite, and Digilog TV. I remember trying the last 2 a long time ago.

  • This is diluting the Foss moment more than others. GPL and AGPL are more than sufficient in my opinion.

  • I assume this will mean no WebView updates. Making these devices more insecure for continued use.

If someone has one on such OS. Installing firefox would be better. Although, performance would be slow.

  • Samsung offers 6-7Yrs of OS and security updates on most of lower midrange to higher end smartphones. The 4-5yrs of policy applies older A series and S series smartphones no longer officially sold by them.

  • True. But, the requirements say 5Yrs of OS upgrades. A security update is not an actual upgrade. I wonder how it will pan-out; If OEMs will simply use the security update as a upgrade replacement.

availability of operating system upgrades for longer periods (at least 5 years from the date of the end of placement on the market of the last unit of a product model)

  • That's the reason OEMs like oneplus, Nothing started to offer for 6yrs of security updates and 3-4yrs of OS. This was just to fulfill the formality.

  • You don't need to act so dismissive. You literally posted about the network connection info permission. Someone asked and confirmed it was a remanant of a permission.

The fdroid version doesn't even connect to the internet according to them. This was being way too paranoid for no reason.

  • You could ask the developer himself or check the source since it is listed on github.

As for comparison to Fossify. I didn't make that comparison.

  • As the other commenter said. Its required to display location preview.

Android doesn't have a default internet permission. But, some OEMs allow that. For others you can use Netguard to limit connection for your apps.

  • If they had updated you too would be waiting for the fix to arrive since android 16 update caused this bug in the 1st place.

  • I'm not google. But, those affected by this issue should raise their voices and ask for free battery replacement and/or get discount for an upgrade to the pixel 8a or a free 7a upgrade.

  • This is a safety feature since there's a serious risk of battery overheating. I would be careful and accept the update or get the battery replaced by official google. Unless, of course you like to live a dangerous lifestyle.
