  • 2 out of the 4 phones are not available in my region. Or the fact that they all start at $469 minimum.

As for the A55. Outside of 12GB ram and sdcard support. Why would you not get the S23 Fe instead if all you wanted was a good camera? You get wireless charging, a flagship chipset (however inefficient and heat prone it may be) and a telephoto camera.

  • At least it has expandable storage. 3.5mm jack is only available on low end Smartphones, Sony smartphones and some rare smartphones like the one released by moondrop with 2 headphone jacks.

  • I don't think Fdroid is so large to be able to create something such as a Foss payment processor. If they could do that, it would be awesome.

The GNU foundation is working on GNU taler. But, it's not adopted by any known bank, or fintech company.

Then, people on this post's comments are saying that they would be good with a "pay what you can/want" concept, but, again, that's already the case with donations. It's literally how donations work.

The slight difference being its present on a source repository/website and is optional. Instead of being tightly integrated in the app like they desire.

  • Those same apks would also include ads. What makes you think if the developer has ads on fdroid, he won't on github?

  • You value Foss software which does not track?

    Advertisment part not withstanding

  • They want to add paid apps where you need to make a payment before getting access to the App. It's not the same as the current donate approach

  • The smartphone is set to receive three major Android updates and four years of security updates.

This was according to the article. Sony has moved past 2 years of updates.

I guess sustainability is something Sony has started to care about. Seeing the zero plastic and recycled materials being used now.

  • It's compact if you compare to most other android smartphones which have 6.7-6.8 inches of display size.

  • It's high time Custom ROMs and users alike did this. I cannot run a custom ROM on my primary device due to play integrity shenanigans some apps may have.

  • Do you know anything about financial markets?

I'm at a beginner level in Investments and stock market.

Study and you’ll understand everything you could do with it.

I'm already learning about Investments and stock market. Maybe, once I finish that I could consider this. But, I don't see much value in crypto so won't bother.

Perhaps, if my perception changes in the future I could reconsider. Just not in the near future.

  • I never understood the crypto hype. There was even an article by protonmail detailing its history and all. Yet, I remain oblivious.

  • Edited. Is it clear?

  • "I'm Kevin Barry, the original creator and primary developer of Nova Launcher. This week Branch parted ways with some employees including people involved with Nova. We recognize this decision is a blow to individuals who have done great work at Nova and Branch and will do great work in the future. We thank them for all their hard work and we wish them the best. I personally really learned a lot from so many of my coworkers and treasure my time with them.

There has been confusion and misinformation about the Nova team and what this means for Nova. I'd like to clarify some things. The original Nova team, for many years, was just me. Eventually I added Cliff to handle customer support, and when Branch acquired Nova, Cliff continued with this role. I also had contracted Rob for some dev work prior to the Branch acquisition and some time after the acquisition closed we were able to bring him onboard as a contractor at Branch. The three of us were the core Nova team

However, I've always been the lead and primary contributor to Nova Launcher and that hasn't changed. I will continue to control the direction and development of Nova Launcher."

    – From Kevin Barry the Lead dev of Nova launcher.

This is the whole blog post from the Nova blog.

  • *Under lab tested conditions.

  • Yeah, my realme smart phone also has a smart charging mode. It will intelligently charge my phone to 80% and slow charge to 100% in the morning. But, any other time it's regular speedy charging.

  • Yeah, I read about this on the Nova launcher discord community. I had already moved to Smart launcher in 2022, seeing the slow development speed and the branch buyout.

Still, seeing so many people being laid off was sad.

  • Not at all. It's heat which is bad for battery instead of charging speed. Modern day charging standards like Supervooc push the heat to the charger and also charge two batteries simultaneously which reduces heat generation.

You can read more about Supervooc here: https://www.androidauthority.com/supervooc-fast-charging-686000/

  • Personally, the last two options are the most appealing to me. 40 mins to full charge for a 7000mah battery is superb.
