  • Zoom enhance not only increases the resolution of a picture it also zoomes in the picture making it neat. The feature requires powerful hardware and according to the article only available on Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro, 9 Pro XL, and 9 Pro Fold.

Pixel 9, Pixel 8, Pixel 8a are not included. So, if you care about this picture do not get these pixels.

A good alternative if you just want to enhance the resolution of a picture is SuperImage on Playstore. There's a version on fdroid but it's outdated.

  • Google is shutting down the program due to its improved security measures

In its email, Google states that it is closing down the program because of the "overall increase in the Android OS security posture and feature hardening efforts." This has led to researchers submitting fewer vulnerabilities than before.

In its last annual report, Google claims to have stopped 2.28 million privacy-violating apps and banned 333,000 malicious developer accounts. Last year, it also announced major improvements to Google Play Protect, including real-time scanning for Android malware. More recently, it bolstered the Play Integrity API with in-app signals to prevent fraudulent activities.

These improvements are evidently working and have led to fewer vulnerabilities being discovered in Android apps and the ecosystem.

  • You can double click the search button at the bottom to start a search

  • Petition to let Max in the Library, now!

  • Downloading from github defeats the whole point of getting free software. Fdroid builds are guaranteed to not include any non-free components. The same is not true for github builds.

  • Yeah, updates can be a tad slow. For fast moving apps like newpipe its understandable. For regular apps it should be fine.

  • It was shared on the fediverse 2 days ago. Now, we get this. I don't want to assume malice, but something seems fishy.

Fortunately, it's still available on fdroid. This is one of the reasons you should get your apps from fdroid instead of play store.

  • The Pixel 9 Pro and even the Pixel 9 Pro XL may not have LTPO displays in India, Malaysia and Singapore. In those regions they have Actua Displays instead of the Super Actua Displays that are used on units sold in the rest of the world. Note that Actua and Super Actua tech is about display brightness rather than refresh rate, but it still shows that different panels are used. That is strange since the Pixel 8 Pro (the large phone that is the predecessor of the 9 Pro XL) already had an LTPO panel.

So, the article is based on speculation instead of hard evidence. They dropped the may and made a concrete statement in the title.

Anyway, there’s more – Pixel 9 phones sold in India do not support Wi-Fi 7, but phones sold anywhere else (including Malaysia and Singapore) do. This includes the two Pro models and the vanilla Pixel 9.

    So, only in India?

We should note that India’s wireless agency still hasn’t okayed the use of the 6GHz band. That said, Wi-Fi 7 has improvements that also function in the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, so there’s no reason to drop support, whether or not the phones ever get to use the 6GHz band.

And the reason being regulation in India.

    sigh news these days..

  • How would that work? An easy way would be to ask one of the instance local mods to pin the post. That should work.

  • Because google like all things google does not bother. I mean why would they if things are going just as well. Not like you and I are going to switch to a rival OS without google services.

  • I'm one such user. I notice the less smooth animations and the lack of App opening animations with them daily.

The reason I still use Smart Launcher is because of its amazing auto app categories, and smart search which is unrivaled by the system launcher.

Not to mention the aesthetics and blurred widgets.

  • Bummer. I guess just some federation shenanigans ¯(ツ)

  • Hmm, its the exact opposite in my case. The A55 is more expensive here in india.

  • Huge batteries that die faster than a Pixel with half the capacity, cameras with infinity megapixels that just end up taking huge terrible photos, software updates lololol, usually the tackiest theme overlaid so you get blue highlights on buttons with green backgrounds...

Never had such issues. Infact, last I knew pixels were bad with battery life.

I've had way too many pieces of crap Xiaomi and Doogee and Ulefones over the years to ever go back after having a couple of Pixels.

That was your issue. I was talking about something mainstream from oneplus, realme, etc. Xiaomi makes good hardware but their software can use some work. I avoid xiaomi but others from bbk electronics like oneplus and realme and good.

  • Pixels always had subpar hardware at best. Don't expect that to change now. Oneplus and other chinese manufacturers are the ones innovating now. Be it in the form of super fast charging or providing large bateries.

Word is next year you would be getting phones with large capacities such as 5500-6000mah. Xiaomi was recently testing large batteries with super fast charging for batteries upto 7500mah and 100w of fast charging.

  • I'm frustrated with the lack of sdcard options in upper midrange smartphones.

If you get a midrange smartphone you either compromise on processor, ram, storage or a combination of other.

I want a good quality smartphone which has 45w of minimum fast charging, UFS 3.1 256GB of minimum. 12GB ram, snapdragon 7+gen 2, or dimensity 8300 at minimum. And provides an sdcard option.

Is it that hard for brands to do that?

Nothing phone 2 and 2a would've been decent. If they had an sdcard option. Alas, they skipped it for some reason..
