  • You'll start to decay, flies and maggots will infest you. When the smell reaches animals, they'll eat the meat. During that process the bones will get scattered. Insects will pick the bones clean and anything organic left (the bone fragments themselves) will eventually break down.

  • But its still not your decision to make. Would 100% of people use it? Probably. What do you lose by asking them first?

  • So you tell them, preferably ask them, first. That's why surgeons make you sign consent forms.

  • I mean, doing anything to anybody without either their knowledge or permission is about as unethical as it gets.

  • Article says: "Ms Jones Doering claimed in the lawsuit that she never created, displayed or assisted anyone in putting up “any racist collage.”.........“[The] Defendants were very much aware of that since they knew who created the collage and who displayed it, but yet maliciously and intentionally publically made false statements about Plaintiff,” the suit stated."

She says it wasn't even in her classroom and she took it down as she also considered it offensive and put it in a locked cabinet when she went into the other classroom to drop off a lesson plan.

Article also says: "In October 2022, Ms Jones Doering was exonerated by a Hearing Officer who ordered her to be reinstated..."

I don't think the racist nature of the display is at issue here. She says her only involvement was to take the thing down and act as union rep for another teacher. Later, she was exonerated. Based on her version of events, coupled with that exoneration it does feel like she's been unfairly lumped in with the other teachers here.

  • If she's a good therapist she'll be feeling awful she couldn't make it. I'd wait to hear her out before making any judgement on either her no-show or her as a therapist/person. It's highly unlikely to be a personal slight, whatever it is, and if it's not personal then there's no need to develop a thick skin.

  • He's campaigning. A large part of the country love this sort of behaviour and if it costs him a few mill well then donations will take care of that.

  • That's kind of my point. There is no god (or at least not one I believe in), my religion is an atheist based one. The morals that we have are our own, we don't see them as anything other than that. I don't want anyone to feel that I'm trying to evangelise or recruit here so I'm not going to go into details, but if you want to, follow the link to community I moderate thats in my profile and there are outgoing links on that community.

  • Hopefully, a slightly different perspective here...

Religion is not interchangeable with theism. Many people, including me, are religious whilst also being atheists. Depending on the source, religion can be defined as a supernatural based idea (god/gods) or (the way I see it) more like Emile Durkheim saw it "a unified system of beliefs and practices [...] which unite into one single moral community called a church, all those who adhere to them."

So, for me, religion gives me a sense of community, support and a structure to guide me. It doesn't rule me and I don't have to worship or pray to a supernatural being that doesn't exist. So in my (biased) view, I get the good bits of religion without the shitty awful bits such as telling everyone only my religion is right, telling everyone what to do based on what I think and generally being an arsehole.

Most people like some type of community because we are, at bottom, social creatures. My own religion allows me to be both individualistic and also part of a community and I think a lot of people feel that their religion gives them that sense of community. A more worrying aspect of religion is theistic religion - worship of a supernatural being/beings - because that is irrational, which is not in itself a concern, but when whole societies are controlled via theism then people suffer.

  • Free speech is a good thing. Absolute free speech is the excuse shit people use to air their shitty opinions.

  • There's a difference between 'governance' and 'control'. And I really doubt Erin Kissane of all people is involved in efforts to control the fediverse.

  • Magento was open source before Adobe bought it, Flash wasn't.

  • Only in a milk float driven by a priest.

  • GoT because I'd read the first two books and got bored of a medieval soap opera where the writer substitutes misery porn for a plot.

Breaking Bad because Bryan Cranston vaguely irritates me (I don't know why, I'm sure he's a lovely man).

Zombie related stuff because seriously, it was non-stop shit zombie movies for almost a decade and I'm bored of it. It's just become another lazy trope. Exception: Zombieland.

  • Adequately funded universal healthcare would, yes. We have universal healthcare here in the UK but it has been starved of resources and doesn't pay it's key staff well at all. No one here questions the quality of the staff - from cleaners all the way up to senior consultants - the vast majority who work in the NHS are dedicated, compassionate highly skilled people but without resources and funding it can feel pointless.

Mental health takes a distinct back seat. The waiting list just for an assessment and diagnosis for ADHD for example is 2 years.

  • He's currently the leading R candidate. Barring a miracle, he'll get nominated. Any sort of complacency by the electorate will lead to him getting in again.

  • They're only consequences until Trump gets back in and pardons them all.

  • It's truly amazing how many ways right wingers will find to be shitty to people.
