  • Serious mode for a moment: transpire typically means "to happen" or "to occur". The "to shed moisture or vapor" definition is now usually limited to discussions about plants (moisture) or the soul when speaking of death in a figurative manner.

Perspire means "to shed matter" but is most commonly used in reference to sweating. The reason that the term referring to "matter" as opposed to the one referring to moisture is preferred is likely due to the salt content in sweat.

Both words share the Latin base for "to breathe", spirare, which is also where we get expire, aspire, conspire, and even spirit.

Back to the joke: you were correct with the way you used transpire in your reply. I "miscorrected" it to make a pun that tied it back to sweat.

  • You can also 68 something if it becomes available again, like a reverse 86. For instance: the kitchen runs out of Brussels sprouts and 86's them, but someone completes an emergency produce run to the local market and preps enough for the rest of the night, so now they're 68.

  • You can't tell the SovCits anything. Maybe we're supposed to have a sheriff inform the human being while we simultaneously address the straw man and thusly create joinder... then I think they have to listen to us based on Admirality Law or something... right?

  • Gathering all the trash to launch it into the sun isn't easy, as many comments have pointed out. Not only do you have to counteract the velocity of Earth, but I'd expect you'd need a way to keep them alive on the trip there as well. I mean, I'm assuming you want them to be cognizant until the end, yeah?
