Lol a new monthly issue of a comic can cost about $4-$6, breakfast at a cheap diner can get $10-$20, a 2 hour movie can be $20+, and of course there are $60 video games selling that are less than 20 hours long. Its really funny how undervalued videogame entertainment is.

yeah it's just zoomed in, discolored, and wet/squished. Poor thing. Theyre unnerving at first but once you get used to them you can think of them as eyelashes gliding around the floor.

First game was super fun so look forward to the sequel.

Like I said I'm basing my assessment on both games by the response the community gave and reviews Ive read and seen. I tend to do the patient gamer thing and wait for big steam sales before buying a game(unless its something I really want and sometimes I know indy games are already cheap and grab it at a lesser sale). Cyberpunk had a similarly criticized launch with the multiple daily 1001 posts on reddit and much like starfield has people who defend it you had people defending cyberpunk as well.

But from the outside looking in it was literally the same. You had the people who let themselves get spunup by the hypemachine absolutely let down when the game didnt live up to the hype.

You had the people who were chastising the bugs and "dated mechanics" how the game "didnt feel alive" and the "driving physics suck"

You had the hardcore CRPG fans for whom the only true RPG is: Baldurs gate 2, Morowind, Fallout 2, and special mentions to fallout new vegas. They'd come in and criticize lack of options and choice and blablabla.

You had the youtubers clowning on the game like Dunky showcasing a bug-fest.

And among people who actually reviewed the game the community consensus I saw was polarizing. Some did love it but a lot of people expressed it not living up to potential.

Again I cant say for sure(maybe next winter sale will be my time to shine) but it's feels like this outrage cycle was targeting cyberpunk for a while and then one day it just stopped. And now that its time for the community to throw their poo at something again cyberpunk is the hero of the story.

So sorry for the rambling but in short my post is less a personal judgment of cyberpunk and more a "the community hated this game and had little good to say about it, and now it's their precious baby and starfield is the bad one". I know its not happening here but I figure rather than spitting into the wind on reddit I'd complain about this weird online discourse here.

Awesome news as arm laptops become more and more viable. I still have hope that competition will get x86 better and better in terms of efficiency, but its great that options will continue to exist and that if the transition ever happens full we will have options to make it seamless.

If you say so! Its horrible that someone who isnt even from an area thinks they have the right to destroy another place's cultural heritage and history because they feel it goes against their religion.

Part of me almost wonders if it's been elevated because it's frequently featured on those benchmark videos that have gotten so popular lately. Heavy use of ray tracing, frequently updated to get new features, very tweakable, and thousands of videos using Cyberpunk as the standard for hardware to be measured by just puts a bug in your head.

I wonder if there could be an upside of this. The culling of lots of talented workers from larger companies could lead to a renaissance in smaller independent AA studios. Like we used to have before companies like EA started gobbling up every little company they could get their hands on.

Lol I like how you took a break from the sprawling modern CRPG by playing a different sprawling modern CRPG.

I do love the pillars of eternity series though. I think the first game got a little exposition text heavy and could have done with some more character animations during cutscenes, but I loved the story and the setting and I enjoyed the tropical island hopping of the 2nd(though I do wish the ship to ship combat was better they were so close to what could have been a paired down FTL).

And it works! Thats the insidious part.

Oh man this discourse has been absolutely typical Gamer garbage on the various subreddits. Every day a new thread with thousands of posts not reading the article but rushing in to say the same thing. It's weird because they are very different games and it also feels like Im taking crazy pills because while I have not played cyberpunk(Im waiting for it go get super cheap on sale before I bother with it) I remember the launch being an absolute shitshow and the general consensus on the story being "meh".

Suddenly starfireld comes out and now Cyberpunk is heralded as the greatest at everything. Like you dont have to pick a team you can just like what you like. I get bethesda sold out to microsoft and is now under scrutiny, and I get that the same vocal posters let themselves get wrapped up in hype, but this is excessive.

Yeah most games are plug and play though every once in a while I find I need to switch to an older proton version to get something to work better.

From what Ive heard the issues with Nvidia on linux are less about proton not working and more about the closed source drivers being a little more effort to install, and causing issues with more bleeding edge and rolling distros because nvidia drags its feet on supporting the newer features and standards. Plenty of people use Nvidia on linux and it does come with benefits as well such as better video decoding and encoding, better work drivers, and since its not foss they can just support HDMI 2.1's closed nonsense without having to worry about stepping on toes.

I dont use Nvidia so I cant say for sure but I feel like the solution to the typical "oh no I ran an update and everything is broken!" is to just use a stable/lts distro.

The thing that gets me is people trying to rationalize it as "well dont people learn from and get influenced by referencing other peoples work" and it's like yeah but a person cant do that as quickly as an AI can and then that individual cant then go on to work for thousands or millions of people at once. Also its so transparently clear that once this tech matures it will be used by major companies and employers that hire creatives as a way to not have to pay actual artists. The savings then get passed on to executives up top.

I feel like I dont have an issue with AI being able to create cool stuff, but if you want to make are "free" and for the "masses" then you cant make money off of it. Full stop.

Yeah the thing that people are upset about reddit for with rate limited apps is something twitter did years ago. Then theres the everything else involved on twitter and its not even close.

Youtube is still the biggest video website on the world and there just isnt a viable competitor to it and nor is there financial incentive for anyone to jump into something like it given the overhead and cost. Hell even early on when youtube was lower resolution and ran worse on hardware it still beat out competitors like vimeo, dailymotion, and the various early internet content creator sites that spun off of youtubes early copyright purge.

At the end of the day they serve a tiny amount of ads which honestly is more of a minor inconvenience(especially when you remember what TV was like) and the algorithm is pretty hit and miss(personally on my feed it's not bad). Even worst case scenario if the adblockers stop working youtube will probably still not die.

It would take an antitrust hearing or something to really push youtube off of it's top spot and it would be interesting to see what that would look like for the site(though I suspect a google dismembering would leave youtube intact and just remove it form other alphabet brands which wouldnt entirely fix the issue).

Hell look at what happened on reddit. That was a very visible very big protest and there was a huge amount of outrage and reddit skews nerdy enough that the userbase actually pays attention and cares about whats going on. Weeks later and not a lot has changed. Lemmy and some other alternatives became viable but even then it And thats essentially just a big message board which links to content on other sites, in terms of design it should be easier to replicate compared to an open video site that anyone can upload to.

I reduce my actual productivity and output so that I work about as fast as everyone else while still wasting time bopping around online, reading books, and etc.

With what happened in Hong Kong recently I imagine it can't be too effective in the short term, but at the same time the slow trickle of disinformation and whataboutism and bots online preaching their BS can have a way of radicalizing and turning people.

And it's not like the US' trackrecord doesnt make it easy to show examples of us doing wrong around the world.
