ElementaryOS sounds like a perfect fit for you, if you haven't tried it already. Superb gesture support and consistent UI across all built in apps

That said, a lot of the gesture support has been implemented in Gnome and KDE now anyway, particularly partial gestures which previously had very poor support IIRC

Are you planning to make your own OS for the watch? If so, there's another smartwatch project called the "SQFMI Watchy" which is an esp32 combined with an e-ink display, RTC and some other sensors.

While I would highly suggest supporting the creators, there are clones on Aliexpress that may more readily ship out to your country

16 years old? That thermostat has sure had a run, must have been designed pretty well to last this long without some electronic failure.

Assuming it's cloud connected, anyone aware whether it got updates for the newer versions of TLS and root certificates? As an example I'm aware quite a lot of android and similar devices from that era have expired certificates now, and outdated/vulnerable SSL libraries...

Most likely this IMO, with all the driver and executable signing/integrity checks nowadays I doubt they can get away with patching the system files a la Windows XP style.

The Telemetry collection service does a good job of that already, especially on laptops where it wakes them from sleep, and eats through the battery while idle in a backpack. I've been stung by this many times since Windows 8 - I now unplug then hibernate my last remaining Windows laptop, work-issued.

Probably along the lines of federated user activity, so things like upvotes/downvotes etc and subscriptions to a community being federated to the relevant server(s)

So even if you're lurking just voting on content, someone could setup a lemmy server, sub to a bunch of communities, and theoretically look at incoming activitypub updates from those communities for your activity I think

The more common use case is people with existing wired headphones - there's honestly no need to cast aside perfectly good cans for no reason. Yes USB-C DACs exist, but IMO that's a completely manufactured expense and inconvenience, considering almost all phones still have the 3.5mm dac and amplifier components physically present on the mainboard: only now you must purchase a dongle to access the output via passthrough, or purchase a third party dongle that includes its own DAC.

My pain point though is the fact that users with wired headphones are now being forced to induce more usage cycles on a single connector port (which is not always economically repairable on modern devices), and all the avoidable e-waste produced by these things when the unreplaceable, consumable batteries give up the ghost after two years of ownership

I've only become aware of these updates today - not fully caught up with the details, but I wish you the best and hope for a positive outcome with everything going on.

I started getting this a few months ago and just switched to other sites instead. Wasn't worth the hassle as I browse from my phone (vnc'd into a VM)

My disappointment when I realised "4k" was only 2160p 😔
