  • I use lemmy obviously. But I've started reading books again rather than doomscrolling until I fall asleep at night, and also more gaming and socialising in general.

I think it was a crutch for my depression.

  • Nurgle looks like he'd fit in well in the US. This is him at a food kitchen!

  • BT - Firewater is a very extreme example of this. First part of the song is more 'ethnic electronica'.

  • Yeah, every single workplace I've worked at aside from one has been "iterative waterfall" - AKA waterfall with sprints.

Companies shouldn't be allowed to say they're "agile"....

  • As an FYI, they didn't expect to get renewed for S5 so the end of S4 was originally supposed to be the series finale. Then they had to come up with a new one

  • First day back at work after 1 1/2 weeks off. Shit didn't catch fire while I was gone which is nice. Have a chat tomorrow with my 2-up boss about how he has treated me (just before I went on leave). Not looking forward to it but I know my worth so whatever happens happens.

Went on a (2nd) date on the weekend too which was great, but also felt like I wasn't supportive enough about some of her concerns about work etc. so followed up today. We'll see how that goes...

  • I went through an existential crisis in my 20s because I was 'told' I needed to be religious but never was. I read a lot of theological and philosophical texts and came to a conclusion similar to yours, if there's a 'God', then they're cruel. I oddly get Pantheism more than Monotheism, because at least it justifies that there's 'good' and 'bad' deities but a lot of them are based on interpretations of phenomena that can now be explained by science.

I took much more to philosophy. I know what I believe is right and wrong morally, and science explains (almost) everything. If there's a 'God'-like figure, they can suck my nut sack because I believe they are at best indifferent, at worst, evil.

  • I'll admit I used to use Konqueror for a while. Plus I much preferred it as a file browser to Dolphin (even now I begrudgingly accept Dolphin). Problem for me was always plugins. I've used most browsers under the sun, but I can't ethically support Chrome or Edge. I remember early versions of NS and AMosaic, Phoenix, Firebird (the latter two were what Firefox used to be called).

I will openly admit Mozilla has made some huge "WTF?" calls though. They alienated a lot of people with some of their design/technical decisions that I think fucked them more than they realised.

  • I do around 7-8.5 hours. But some of that is just socialising/chatting with people (I'm in software dev management). Lots of "Sooo... What's your perception of what's going on?" "Things going OK?" "Who do I need to talk to to smooth things over?" kinda stuff (the soft skills side of things). It is super rare to go above that unless there's an incident of some type or something goes totally pear shaped.

I used to do 10+ last job and despised it. Took a step down in pay for this role but so much less stress. Day ends, I log off and detach from it all.

Edit: Put per week, not per day...

  • I took the last week and a half off from work and was happy to see when I finally checked my emails (bored at the airport) it didn't look like anything went to shit! Was nice to get away for a bit, and need to do it more often but tend to procrastinate for stupid reasons...

Also supposed to go on a second date tomorrow to a gig but we'll see if that actually happens or she got bored and moved on while I was on holidays.

But in a good mood. Just got home a couple of hours ago and doing some cleanup/chores.

It's been a while since I've actually felt 'happy' vs 'anhedonic'.

  • I was wondering if this was Australia. I've heard of issues with smart meters and the issue is annoyingly complex as the information they get from the AEMO isn't always correct.

Source: Have worked in the energy utilities sector in the past...

  • Isn't there currently a huge shit fight about Disney+ removing shows that aren't available anywhere else and will never be released on physical media too?

  • WWJD

    Jump
  • Is it just me or is the second picture Lone Starr flying/driving Eagle 5 in Spaceballs....

  • I self-host (postfix and dovecot) and will admit of all the self-hosted stuff I have it's the most annoying/time-consuming to manage but doable if you're willing to spend a lot of time reading and updating things. I wouldn't recommend it to the vast majority of people though.

  • That's what it was, yeah it was "on authority"! It would suck because otherwise I'd have to get the prescriptions filled out every 2 weeks which was a PITA. (even monthly is a PITA...)

  • I've actually been able to do this occasionally in the past. I tend to be very drug-tolerant (and it sucks) and for a couple of my meds my GP called up medicare and the prescription was modified so I could do this.

I wonder if this is a simplification of that process?

  • It's because one of its tenets is POLA (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Principle_of_least_astonishment). I use it for every server I run (4 physical, 37 'jailed'). Desktop it's "OK" and can be hit and miss with a lot of hardware, I'll admit it. It works on my laptop perfectly, and on my desktop generally.
