  • Honestly, I'd like to double mine (to about $400-500k AUD pa) and only work 40% meaning I'd be on about 175-ish.... and it'd be fine. Sadly I can't see it happening any time soon.

Edit: I know I'm doing well, but I find work super draining and would love to work part-time.

  • Australia. We seem to be doing OK-ish vs. Right Wingers, but we still have our own issues...

  • Ah I'm sorry to hear that. I got down to the last 2 a few years back and they went with the internal candidate... It definitely wears you down.

  • Hyponatraemia occurs when sodium levels in the blood stream drop below 135 mmols/L.

I work in IT and this in no way applies to any aspect of my life (so far)

  • Cavalier was a first edition class (Yes I'm old)

  • Been there and done that in a similar type of role. Did you get to interview stage?

  • Been pretty quiet to be honest. Despite being the weekend thinking about work a bit and how I can 'do better'. Personal life is pretty meh so it's a nice distraction. Also doing a lot of cooking at home (pulled pork, roast chicken, some soups with smoked ham hocks etc) so have a lot in reserve which is awesome.

  • Yep. First aid 101. Move things out of the way and just wait (and call an ambulance).

  • Problem is I imagine a lot of their hardware is under NDA so they're unable to. I appreciate what they're trying to do but a lot of hardware companies sadly won't allow them to publish a lot of things. I do wish there was more open-source hardware (and I say that as a huge open-source advocate)

  • Same thing with doing "spill and fills" The ones who know they're good will find another job no hassles so they put their hand up. The useless ones ones will want to stay so you end up with a team of 'meh' people while the good ones move on to something better.

  • Great, now I have to dig out all my Rifts sourcebooks since it's been too long...

  • No it's really OK. Thank you for your concern. I provide all the support I can but when I'm not doing OK (I've had friends who couldn't handle this time of year and ended their own lives...) I'm the shit person for needing my own time.

  • I broke up with my partner. Honestly for the best and I'm in a great mood. I somehow seem to find people with the lowest empathy and EQ levels possible whereas I'm very high on both and end up being their 'support' but if I'm not doing OK I'm a shit person.

Working on doing more exercise. Set up a home gym and trying to lose my covid weight. In a great mood and kinda love storms so it's a win/win!

  • This is my thing. I have about 122TB of spinning metal (with the same as an offsite backup) with SSDs as ZIL and L2ARC. And it's awesome. HDDs I think will genuinely be important for for the foreseeable future.

  • I used to run in to a guy at my 'regular' who was with the Office of Police Integrity. He was bitter and angry because his job was in to investigate cops who fucked up or were crooked, and the police union would block it all. He wanted to do the right thing and was blocked at every stage. Hated cops, hated his job...

  • Yeah I found both Google and MS will arbitrarily act like dicks. Have it all sorted these days but still keeps me on my toes. Interestingly I can't email myself from my work email address because the MS mail service they use fails SPF checks...

All fun and games at the end of the day! :)

  • The thing most people don't realise is in a dom/sub relationship it's actually the sub who has all the power. They can withdraw consent etc. any time they want Having someone you're in a relationship with directly reporting to you is problematic and most companies would explicitly not permit it.

  • I'm trying to remember this correctly, but traditionally /home is a symlink of /usr/home. I think that's deprecated and you should now just have /home
