  • One thing we overlook in ideological debates is that most forms of socialism and communism would have no use for advertising and marketing. Imagine all this effort going to productive endeavors and having an IRL adblock.

May my last online purchase be a beret.

  • While this is true, it's not difficult to verify. You can inspect the network traffic through your router from that device and see whether it's communicating more often or with larger data packets while you're talking near but not to it.

That could be obfuscated with a powerful enough device that's able to maintain the user profile locally and by sending the full profile each time, or by trickling the information out bit by bit as part of a regular heartbeat traffic, but that would require more expensive hardware and would eat up a lot more bandwidth.

Not impossible, but not undetectable either. I'm willing to bet that studies have been done.

Skepticism is good but without thinking through it, experimenting, or doing research to back it up it's just paranoia. Conversely you could say my trust that others would have looked into it is naive.

  • It's not about the elections it's about who gets the support and opportunity and resources to win elections.

A footrace can be executed completely fairly and transparently but if you need to buy special expensive shoes to participate and you receive them at someone else's discretion and you need to join one of two private clubs to get an invitation and the leaders and members of those clubs also apply discretion then a lot of unfair choices and decisions are being made before the starter pistol goes off.

  • No offense intended then :)

I guess it both still applies and also doesn't, wishing you the best through what might be challenging times ahead and likewise for myself here in Canada. Our right wing turn has taken a sharp turn back recently but we're not out of the woods yet.

  • They still have people that can say no to them, their workers can quit, they need to deal with consumers boycotting their products.

Globally, China is rapidly catching up to and surpassing Americans in more and more industries, and they need to protect their status.

    Nothing is enough for them.

  • They will not survive a war with Canada. We won't beat their military in direct combat but the insurgency right next door which can easily cross into their homeland, hit some of their most populous cities, and hide easily in Canadian wilderness, would end way faster than Afghanistan and Vietnam with the same outcome

Yes there'll be suffering on both sides, but it's suicide. I'd rather he accomplishes that another way but fuck it

  • I'm opposed to this oversimplification, even if he's a confirmed Russian asset we can't just imagine that erasing Trump and Putin will solve everything.

Fascism has reared its head and it wasn't just due to Putin and Trump. Real systemic change is required in the politics and the economy of the United States.

If they just go back to Bidening things up after Trump and assume everything is great there's going to be a very rude awakening.

We can't keep iteratively adopting Fascism, technological advances and the interdependence of the global economy has already made it so this time might destroy us all. Next time definitely will.

  • A Canadian state likely won't survive a war but the Canadian insurgency would be worse for Americans than anything they've dealt with before. We have tons of wilderness and the world's longest and currently poorly defended land border. Afghanistan and Vietnam were domestically unpopular halfway across the world, now imagine the same quagmire miles from American population centers with frequent strikes in those population centers by Canadian insurgents.

  • You're in a fantasy world fighting straw men of your own creation, dividing and attacking amongst those that oppose Trump. You're a "vote blue no matter who" boiling frog who is more eager to attack the people demanding more from both parties than to stand up alongside your leftist brothers and sisters fighting fascism.

You're a vote-obsessed political agnostic who doesn't understand that progress and political action don't start and end at upvotes and paper ballots. You're crying with your tail between your legs waiting for the fascist to let you vote again.

Your contributions aren't needed or useful. Your divisive and confrontational attitude towards those left of you is helping Trump at least as much if not more than those you're criticizing.

If an Arab American or someone with actual loved ones who are dying in Palestine or someone who otherwise can't bring themselves to vote for genocide enablement chose to vote for neither red nor blue they're not my enemy, Trump and his kind and people like you who enable Democrat complacency and the ratchet effect are my enemy.

If you cowards joined those you mock in ACTUAL political action the Democrats wouldn't all be neutered 100 year olds.

  • Taking opportunities like this to make disingenuous comments to feel smug is psychopath behavior you Internet point chasing degenerate.

Shouldn't you be hiding in a hole until it's time to vote again? Let the adults handle the resistance.

  • There's not really a "should" here, necessarily. I think we all need to do what we reasonably can. What you're saying is true and important to remember, and a reflection of how intertwined our economies have become, but if this trend of rising tensions continues then all of that might be on the table.

At some point we may need to graduate from individual action and voting with our wallets to actual state level intervention, like asset seizure and nationalisation of certain companies or industries.

I'm pushing myself to do the most I can accommodate in my life individually, and I'm fairly well off and can afford to take financial hits in service of this, but not everyone can do that on a personal level. Canadian economic diversity is fairly poor and enriching the same handful of Canadian capitalists isn't great either, but it's the lesser evil right now I think.

Unsurprisingly with a handle like mine I'm down to eventually dismantle capitalism entirely, and at least we'll be keeping more of our labour surplus in our domestic economy.
