  • Canada needs a bigger population to compete on the world stage and to defend our vast nation.

If builders or other industries can't keep up, they need to step up or be supplemented or subverted. Canada's population density is effectively zero. With greater military and economic threats, trying to diminish our population isn't the way to go.

  • This just goes to show that the market isn't effective for providing people with housing and non-market solutions are needed.

Builders aren't going to drive the cost of homes down, they are selling them at high prices and making a bigger profit doing so.

Why is it easier for you to question immigration levels than to question the private construction of housing?

If our food supplies weren't keeping up with population so Loblaws made more money would you be bootlicking Loblaws or calling for the government to invest in food production?

Canada has more empty homes than unhoused people. Yes they're not in the same places, but isn't that another data point that the market sucks at providing housing where it's needed?

  • Because Democrats still seem to think that all it'll take to undo the damage is another Biden from the blue team.

The world's not trusting the United States unless there's dramatic change and people see justice, not 4 years of foot dragging and "reaching across the aisle."

  • Canada has low population density, poor public transit, a very fossil heavy economy, and it's taking significantly slower and less drastic steps towards becoming green compared to Europe and China.

Instead of giving ourselves a pass by looking at it from the only statistical lens that obfuscates all of those things by dramatically over-weighing our low population, instead you should be demanding more.

Do you know what a ranking of countries by total emissions looks like? A ranking of countries by population, with some small reordering at certain indices. How is that useful for anything scientific?

I'm sorry but you're just plain wrong.

By that same reasoning we can't criticize billionaires for contributing 100s of times as much in carbon emissions as the average person because of their lifestyles.

Per capita analysis tells us which countries have poor transit infrastructure, harmful lifestyles, legacy fossil-based economies. Total emissions analysis tells us which countries are more populated. Cool.

  • I don't think you're getting it.

If Canada has 10 people and 6 of them are heroin addicts, and China has 1000 people and 60 of them are heroin addicts, then even though China has 10 times as many addicts they're doing a better job curbing addiction since only 6% rather than 60% of people are addicted.

  • I'll acknowledge my comment was rude, you are expressing humility now that wasn't present in your original assertive message. You hopefully have a better understanding now.

This misinformation about national debt that you unintentionally spread is used by conservatives around the world to deny people services

  • Some people when faced with an overly simple explanation doubt their own understanding and try to see why experts and academics say otherwise.

Others assume they know better than the experts and everyone is an idiot but them.

Maybe you know a lot about a topic, and see others choose one of those paths when questioning your area of expertise.

Which kind of person do you want to be?

  • Democrats and Republicans are aligned on trans erasure now.

Fucking idiot Dems think it'll stop there I guess.

I don't understand why Americans aren't marching to war against this shit, it's taking root.

  • We have a fair number of MAGA/convoy people ourselves, Cons might not be able to change without splintering.

The polls leading up to Trump + Trudeau's resignation just show they'll win by default eventually anyway.

We love pretending we're a two party system
