  • I switched from Win 10 to Ubuntu this year. The Ubuntu installer was easy as hell. I'd argue easier than windows.

It got tricky when I needed the non-latest CUDA drivers for pytorch fun, but most folks won't be doing development.

Also, most folks don't install windows. They'll give it to their nerd nephew or their local Compu-Hut.

My biggest gripe is Snaps can make for confusing permission bullshit when saving files or using the clipboard, but this isnt a debate about snaps... the installer is great

  • I dont know anything about this. We're they all living in the same neighborhoods or we're they in different neighborhoods in the same city or like different towns in the same Provence?

Just curious how closely bound their networks were. In my home town folks of different faiths are neighbors and mostly go to the same schools and share a government. There's not much segregation at all. Sure, there's racism among all groups, but it gets much weaker and much less frequent with each generation.

Oh yeah and fuck the ole British state. Bunch of tossers meddling all about so they can exploit everyone's resources. Their emancipated colony, all-grown-up now, isn't much better.

  • Hell yeah!

Great point. The WTO has been effective at enforcing international trade agreements.

Most of their enforcement has been things like forcing countries to import tuna caught with dolphin- killing nets and other messed up stuff.... ... but they could totally enforce a carbon & pollution fee system for internationally traded goods.

Being that they are essentially run by international conglomerates, I doubt they will, but they are positioned to.

  • He didnt ask when companies will shift to making money. He asked when will companies shift to making things we need.

Money is a useful tool, but it is not life sustaining by itself. Our species existed without money for longer than we've had money.

What humans really need is a habitable planet where we can feed ourselves, have shelter and cultivate culture with others.

Unfortunately the desire for money has disincentivised taking care of the ecosystem that provides food, protects us from solar radiation and keeps us and our crops from baking or freezing to death.

  • I suspect the reason Hamas has power is their ability to point at the atrocities in the West Bank and stir up hatred.

Likewise the reason the Zionist warhawks in Isreal have power is they can point out the actions by Hamas and stir up hatred.

That's a hideous feedback loop seen throughout history. It'd be great if it stopped.

My understanding is the Zionists justification for their West Bank actions would make it fair for Native Americans and Mexicans to begin evicting people and bulldozing towns throughout the US... Which I do not support. I'm betting he US would bomb Mexico and raid Native Territories if they did.

  • I think the unit dumps it back into the surrounding water. I don't think this will replace large scale reverse osmosis, but if it can produce enough for a couple people and not require external power, replacement filters, or frequent maintenance, then it's has potential use for costal communities.
